The Rangers were great tonight. They had clearly done their homework.

The refs are such a problem. Even down to the icings they choose and choose not to call.

I love how we get half as many PPs as the other team because we happen to score on them.
The game management is just pathetic on so many levels. Keeping the score close by allowing one team to clutch and grab is not creating a better product. Maybe instead of rewarding Carolina for playing basic ass hockey, force them to open it up a bit. Could be a fun game.

Panarin needs more TOI. The Rangers played their best hockey in the 3rd period after Necas scored. Trocheck line started after the Necas goal. They had a very good shift in the offensive zone. Lafreniere hit the post. Zone time. The Rangers even completed a partial change. Zibanejad for Trocheck. Panarin had a shift with Goodrow and Vesey. Then another shift with Trocheck and Lafreniere when Panarin scored. The Rangers score to make it 4-2. They sagged again.

I liked how Wennberg skated the puck out of the Rangers zone two or three times in the second period. Carolina swarms and just throws the puck on net. They attack every player. Skating the puck out of the zone breaks that. Gustafsson did that. Lafreniere can do that too. Fox.

Necas remained on the ice after his goal. Necas got tangled up with Lindgren in a play behind the Rangers net. You can see Necas grab his ribs three times when the play comes into the Rangers zone. He goes to the bench grabbing his right rib as he is talking to the trainer. He seemed fine scoring the goal. Did he pull a muscle? He didn't seem to play much after that.

Still needs to be said that not calling interference, or hooks all the time is standard playoff fare. But not calling high sticks is completely unacceptable. Blatant stickery and crickets. But yeah, REMPE!!#E$* got pushed into the goalie "he needs to know where he is!". F you, call HIGH STICKS.

The Rangers have bent but not broke all year long.

They are chameleons in a lot of ways, I expect them to adapt to the Canes style a little more as the series progresses.

Special teams and goaltending is huge, but other fans cant just say they got lucky. This is how they play.

We saw this all year long, this team finds ways to win and hopefully it carries through the next month and half.

The Panarin line will play more when we're not shorthanded all the time.

The refs to stop looking for reasons to call penalties on the Rangers.

Again, comes with the territory when you're leading all the time but its bad enough that they're missing really obvious shit that their opponents are doing while they're either being whistled for shit that is NOT a penalty (almost everything Rempe has been called for, the Trouba penalty yesterday which happens 900 times a game and is selectively enforced) and Carolina is being allowed to clutch, grab, hook and high stick their faces off.

They're going to dive and whine their way to PP's this series and will probably get their share of calls. It's been the MO of that team for a long time. The least the Refs can do is call Carolina for the actual infractions that they do commit.

Are we doomed to have the same people calling all the games? They were awful yesterday. Getting Cuylle and Mika mixed up? And the call on the Rangers first goal was laughably bad.
McDonough's gotta tell his rando stats & stories. Call the game? Maybe, maybe not.

Leftover from game thread….

Goalie holes defined…

"Holes number one and two are above the shoulders of the netminder, and three and four are in the lower corners of the goal on either side of his ankles. The five-hole is right between the legs, while six and seven are underneath the armpits.

From hockey for dummies
Gee thanks for that. Why is Hockey trying to emulate Golf?
You forgot the hole in their defense. Tony D.

Here are Sam's calls from yesterday!

I wonder if I can sync my TV with the radio Sam calls over the McDonough feed. May be delayed so will have to figure it out. That first Mika goal was an embarrassment of a call, like literally 5 secs went by, “Blah blah blah oh yeah and Mika Zibanejad scores.” Lol.

What a pleasant surprise that Mika is actually showing up like a 1C.
Not a surprise. I have a theory, Carolina isn't a heavy team. They don't have enough defensive forwards that can handle 2 TOP lines, let alone a 3rd that can do some occasional damage. Love the puck off his stick in a split second. Players dusting it off gives the goalie much too much time to get set and save it. Get rid of it quickly at the expense of NOT being pinpoint.
Also, if Carolina focuses too much on Mika line, watch Panarin, Tro and Laf go off.

Ever had the bright idea to take your BP immediately after a playoff game? Me neither.

I said earlier today that my body is NOT ready. I was right. I’m not sure I can survive this.
Hang in there buddy, only 11 more wins. Maybe 18 more games.

Had to go to bed after the 1st, and it was a nice way to wake up for work and look see the result from my phone

Listening to 32 thoughts here, Elliotte and Jeff both agree that the penalty on Rempe was absolute BS, never a penalty. However, they are wondering if Laviolette has to pull Rempe out of the lineup at some point because the officials are clearly watching him and giving him questionable calls based on reputation. With Chytil seemingly ready to play, as sad it might be, replacing Chytil with Rempe might be on the horizon (and obviously Chytil should play on the 3rd line, not in 4th).

Sam needs to calm down a bit. How will he EVER top that call when it comes time for Cup winning game? I dunno.

The refs and the league are doing everything they could to castrate Rempe. I know the NHL wants to focus on speed and skill, but they have to remember where this wonderful game got people hooked. Hitting hard and fighting.
They need to be careful with this, and yeah Rempe has to be extra cognizant of what's going on here.
