The tariffs are giving companies cover to make price increases that they’ve wanted to make for years.

Trump’s tariffs are idiotic, but even if/when he’s booted from office and they’re rescinded, I dont expect prices to drop back down.

This is the new normal.

The last time we had a major downward price refresh, it was due to an new entrant in the console war looking for an advantage, and the introduction of new tech into the industry (optical disks and drives vs cartridges).

SNES games were selling anywhere from $50 to $100 before the Playstation came in and basically set eveey game at a standard $50z

This is correct. When cooler heads are in charge, prices still won't go back down. These companies aren't your friends, if you give them reason to jack up the price, they will. Even after the price they pay drops back down.

The secret is to not give them an excuse to raise prices. Too late for that now, though.

Tariffs don't have anything to do with this, its simply more expensive to produce this hardware now. Sony and Microsoft have already raised the price of their consoles in various regions. This is just the first time it's happening in NA.

I haven't done much gaming since the end of the 360/ps3 days but I will say it a bit sad to see Xbox on life support now with them going mostly 3rd party or whatever but still making consoles?

I wonder if we get a new Halo tomorrow, Infinite one of the games I played this gen...wasn't very good

There's a big Halo announcement this Fall i believe. Infinite was a weird one. The actual gunplay was awesome, honestly the best since H3, but multiplayer released with bare-minimum content that I think only added a few maps from the Beta. The Campaign design was standard, soulless, open world check point sort of style and was not very fun. The story was seriously lacking.

Industry is so weird now that I’ll be watching the showcase despite not having an Xbox. Persona 4 remake is being announced and pretty much everything will be multiplat at some point
