Microsoft Xbox Discussion Part II

That was a good showcase, I'm interested in every game they showed aside from South of Midnight. Those titles plus Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, and Fable are making game pass pretty compelling in 2025.

Interesting to read a recent interview with Spencer where he basically said Starfield would be going multi-platform. They keep talking about wanting to work more with Nintendo and how they don’t want to keep any of their games away from potential customers (i.e. no exclusives)

Starting to get Sega vibes from Microsoft tbh. At what point does exiting the hardware game and going true third party make sense if this is their strategy?

The moment Sony allows Game Pass on Playstation, which I don't see happening any time soon.

What incentive do game developers have to publish games for xbox if there is no xbox ecosystem to play them on. If Sony is the only real AAA console maker then what value would Gamepass even have?

I mean they're expanding that ecosystem constantly. But they're not getting out of the console business, they literally hyped up their next system being the "biggest technological leap". And their coming up with a handheld also down the line.

“Let’s say it: our own hardware, I think it’s fundamental about what Xbox is,” Spencer told Gamertag Radio. “It’s not lost to me that ‘box’ is in the name of our brand. In the position that I’m in, I look at hardware as a critical part of what we do, but [we’re] not trying to gatekeep the games off of other places for the benefit of it.

“Let’s go build innovative hardware that people want to use to play, whether that’s in their hands, whether it’s on the television, or even other places,” he added.

“And I love our hardware team. I spent some time with them just this week [looking at] the roadmap that they have. I think we’re learning a lot from this. Like Steam Deck, and what does it mean for our games to be there? ROG Ally, Lenovo… what does Xbox mean on those platforms? I don’t think we’re tuned it perfectly yet, and I’ve spent a lot of time with the team on that, but I want to make progress there.”

In the same interview, Spencer confirmed that Xbox intends to support Nintendo Switch 2 with ports of its own games. “I was exchanging emails with Furukawa-san, the CEO of Nintendo. I gave him a big congrats and said my old eyes appreciate the larger screen,” he said.

The Xbox ecosystem would still exist, just the console in the ecosystem would be swapped out for PS5. Everything else would remain the same. But again, I don't see this happening unless Sony allows Game Pass on PlayStation which is realistically never going to happen
