Old school coach sending an old school message not all that surprising. Whether it will have the desired impact with the player remains to be seen.

Torts being Torts, or is there merit to this decision?

Obviously been great offensively so far, but I assume this has to do with his defense or 5 on 5 play
Torts is doing the Luongo treatment on Michkov. Healthy scratching a player that is a key member of your team for no reason. He scratched Luongo during the winter heritage classic game so this does not surprise me.

One assist over the past five games for a player who is only expected to provide offense seems to be a good reason. For his sake, I hope Michkov doesn't pout and uses this as a learning experience.

Michkov is their best prospect and could eventually be their best player in the future. I would let him play and figure out his problem on ice. Players like him should play more so they can develop when they are this young. Scratching him could ruin his development and maybe his confidence too. AHL is probably not an option for him otherwise he wpuld be better off playing high minutes in AHL to get acclimated with the North American style of hockey and the system.

Sounds like an armchair quarterback to be sure. It's easy when you have no skin in the game.
