Michael Ryder Thread: The "Erik Who?" edition

I only question how long he will be able to sustain this level of play

Also, like it or not, if there was a Ryder 1.0, Ryder could always regress to that. IMHO i'd give him a 1 -2 yr deal or it would be a pass.

Ryder 1.0 was a product of Guy Carbonneau.

Carbo did not know how to manage his players nor was he a very good motivator.

Helluva player, sucked at coaching.

I was really happy about this trade before I even knew there was a pick involved.

Ryder is playing himself out of price range to resign now. It'll be interesting to see how much money he gets.

Yeah I really didn't like this trade and dogged my fellow Newfoundlander but I must admit i'm eating crow now but I like it, I really hope he keeps it up the guy has been lights out for us

If he ends up being a rental that got rid of Cole's contract, then I am OK with that.

Michael Ryder is not a fantastic hockey player, but the guy just knows how to score goals. You can't teach something like that, some players just have a knack for putting the puck in the net and he's one of them.

I hope the Habs resign him.

Don't compare Ryder before with Ryder now. He has proven that he is a legislate goal scorer while away from the Habs and he continues here and now.

Yes, any time he stops scoring, the legislature meets and passes legislation that legislates him to score.

A very legitimate use of the legislature's powers.

I wouldn't sign him long term but 2 maybe 3 years. He fills a need as a pure goal scorer and he has rounded out his game to be at least serviceable in defensive situations.

I really don't understand how anyone could not want the guy? He is clutch and has do e nothing but help the Habs since being here. Probably a top 3 free agent this off season.

Even if he does regress to Ryder 1.0 as you call it, that is still a Ryder food for 20-30 goals.

Mea culpa, mea maximum culpa.

Ryder is much better defensively than I thought he would be. I think he is someone that respects Michel Therrien and he has bought into the Habs' hustling style. I saw a difference after about 4 games.

Could he regress? Anyone can, look at Gaborik, LOL.

But I would be willing to offer $4M times two years, easily.

Agreed, do it. We have the cap space, guys, and I honestly don't know what else is out there this Summer that's going to be significantly more attractive.

* Gabriel Dumont signed as restricted free agent for $577,500.
* Ryan White signed as restricted free agent for $721,875.
* Michael Ryder signed as free agent for $4,250,000.
* Peter Budaj signed as free agent for $1,350,000.
* Jeff Halpern signed as free agent for $700,000.
* Jarred Tinordi recalled.
* Tomas Kaberle bought out.

I'd love to see him back with the habs with a 2 year deal worth 4-4.5 mil $ per year....but let's face it with the year he is having it's obvious a team will be willing to offer more years and more money than us, so unless he takes a "discount" to stay in MTL I don't have much hope of us keeping him

The guy is 7-7 -14 in 14 games with us... while cole is 3-0-3 in 13 games with Dallas.

We need him, he puts the pucks behind the net, thats all that matters.

We don't need to buy a superstar in montreal, we need to grow one like... 11, 27, 76 and sometimes the 31

Ryder succeeds with positioning and his shot.

As long as you can get him the puck in his positions, which is really anywhere, he will continue to score.

He's intelligence is underrated. Goal scorers gonna goal score.

I've always said that the paper airplanes were awesome and will remember him fondly for it just like Cole high fiving the ref and Niiniimaa and his stare

At first i wasn't a fan ( yea i hated him) but he freaking puts point even when he's not playing good. I hope we can resign him.

What's surprising with him is that I did not remember how big he was physically. He's not easy to counter and take the puck from him because of that. I admit it's not something I noticed when he was with us back in the day but years of watching small players with the Habs trying to fight like mad to do the simplest play, it's refreshing to see someone with actual size doing things easy.

I was skeptical of this thread at first, I too wasn't the biggest Ryder fan of the world but he impressed me in his second run with the Habs.

I'd take him back for a 2 or 3 year deal at a reasonnable price. The guy knows how to score.
