Michael Ryder Thread: The "Erik Who?" edition

3 points last night despite only Galchenyuk playing less minutes.

That's right, Blunden had more minutes than Ryder (although I thought Blunden played well).

17-points in 17-games since returning. Over a full season, his point pace is 71-points!! :amazed:

Unless he falls on his face from now on, he'll be hard to re-sign.

Though with the cap going down maybe we can use that to our advantage and get him signed at 3 years 13.5-14 mil.

May as well wait for after the playoffs, his price can't get any higher unless we win the cuo and he gets the Conn Smythe.

Maybe he'll take a bit of a discount if we go far in the playoffs this year. The way he's been playing so far I'd be really pissed if we didn't sign him.

As much has i wanted to sign him after last night's game, it does not make sense cap wise. He will ask for 4 millions$ +for 4 years is my guess. Plus if we sign him, their wont be a roster spot for Kristo next year. I have to admit that he is playing lights out right now.

We're talking about Michael Ryder, he'll take no discount. We're talking about the guy who went to arbitration 3 years in a row as a RFA.

Haha yeah that's what I was about to say. Michael Ryder does not take discounts.

What would be the maximum you would suggest be acceptable on a ONE-year contract?

Glad to see Ryder is finally getting some love. However, I fail to understand why 4M would be an overpayment for a consistent 30g+ player? Plus, he's a good playoff performer. We pay 5M to Pleks and Gio for inconsistent production and questionable playoff performance. :dunno:

He's not getting re-signed next season, and frankly we don't need him going forward. Bourque will do the job, and we've got Kristo who'll be pushing for a spot too.

Anyone notice that Subban and Ryder are feasting on each other's talents. Subban has been getting a lot of shots through the gaps and on target, while Ryder in the slot picks up deflections, rebounds or direct feeds.

Reminds me of the chemistry of Orr and Esposito.

I hate watching this organization let stars walk because of money. Why let him walk? So we can all complain that we don't have a purely offensive goal scorer? So we can trade away assets at next trade deadline for a goal scorer? Can we really afford to loose such a productive player? Can we afford to loose a guy who when the game is on the line I want HIM on the ice?

Bourque can't fill his shoes as a pure goal scorer... Micheal ryder has twice the offensive awareness as Bourque.

We need to sign him.. 4 years 16 million.

I hate Ryder a lot but he's way better than Bourque, let's not kid ourselves.

lol. Backhanded compliment.

If we don't sign him... It's a mistake... Keep Gionta and get rid of Ryder... Ludacris.

Gionta doesn't know what he's doing anymore... Gallagher is making him look really really bad.

Ryder for the win.

I think we should remember the circumstances that lead him to arbitration. It is my recollection that Gainey really lowballed him at the time.

It would make more sense to have all of Kristo, Bourque and Ryder next year to have some healthy competition on the wing. Gio will soon become the odd man out. Makes no sense to part with a productive, mature Ryder and get nothing in return.

The type of finisher the team needs but he'd come at a hefty price, which makes me think we won't be able to keep him

Yea but other teams gonna offer him so much that we can't afford doing a low ball contract.

What kind of organization lets their leading scorer walk away for nothing? I'll be really pissed if they don't offer him a contract. I still think Chucky-Ryder could do some real damage when Chucky settles down and plays with more confidence. That could be a year or two from now and Ryder might accept a bit less money to get a contract in the 3-4 yr range instead of having to pack his stuff every year.

I’m not quite sure that Ryder is so much better than Bourque. If were speaking pure goal scorer they are fairly comparable.

He did have 2 x 30 goal seasons with us but that was back in 05/06 & 06/07. Then he sucked it up, and then had a good (not spectacular for a goal scorer) season with Boston. After that he was VERY average until last year when he had a career high of 35 goals. This year he’s doing well again.

If you look at Bourque, he never reached 30 goals but has been a bit more linear in his scoring aside from last year (btw we can all agree last year he was crap, however still got 18 g.). This year he was on pace for a mid-twenty goal season over an 82 game schedule.

Both players are similar, but I feel like Ryder is more of a gamble than Bourque especially if he'll be asking $4.5M+ while we have Bourque signed at a very comfortable $3.3M for the foreseeable future.

In closing both players are 25-30 goal/season, and if they at least get that then you’re happy. For the off-chance that Ryder gets an extra 3-5 goals/season, is that worth an extra $1.5M+/season?

Now if we can afford both then..yeah for sure!
