The guy just seems to always be in the right place at the right time. It's like he's got good karma or something.
Goal scorers do that.

did not think I'd want him re-signed when we traded for him... but two things have changed my mind:
- his game seems to have matured a bit since his last stint here. He's no "end-to-end" player, but he's much more aware and reliable with the puck & better at winning 1-on-1 battles than he was in the past iirc
- he seems to really be thriving playing in MT's system. He's always been a pretty opportunistic scorer, and playing in the more wide-open style that MT's approach allows for is a good fit for him.
2 years, 5M$
3 years, 4.5M$
4 years, 4M$ (least attractive)
i'd be happen with any of the three, especially knowing that he'll get more on the free-market with so little UFA talent available.
I'd take Ryder over Bourque, personally...If anyone had around the league had interest I'd love to move him.
Everyone seems to forget last year from his what, 15 games of production this year?
1-Ryder will cost more to sign(Bourque only gets a 3.3 mil cap hit), Ryder will cost 4.5-5.25 mil cap hit depending on term.
2-we need a player Bourque's style more than one Ryder's style.
3-no reason we can't have both, if we let either one walk/trade Bourque we'd have to go out and add another player(trade/UFA)
Agreed on all counts.
Having those two gives ample time for our youngsters to continue to develop in a sheltered role, both in the NHL (Gallagher/Galchenyuk) and the AHL (Kristo, Leblanc, etc). No need to rush these guys into bigger roles.
He didn't fit in years ago with the system Carbonneau had, I can't really blame Ryder for wanting out, from back to back 30 goal seasons to the press box
The way he is playing now with Pleks and the fact that he knows the city I would definitely look him up, especially if you consider the weak UFA list coming up this summer
The UFA market actually looks pretty deep to me, as far as forwards go... Ribeiro, Boyes, Dupuis, Jagr, Koivu, Iginla, Bozak, Roy, Brunner, Horton, Raymond, Stalberg...
Anyway, I'd also lock Ryder up, might as well stick with the (very good) bird in hand. I just don't think he'll be as expensive as most posters do.
Trade DD we will have more room to sign Ryder.
We need a 2nd top 6 center still, neither Gally or Eller are ready for that next year if you want to have a successful year.
NO
Unless you want Ryder to be Cole 2.0
Last year many were in love with Cole, this year he's a bum
Need you be reminded that Ryder 1.0 ended with pressbox paper airplanes?

I believe the transition will happen DURING next year, but not before the year starts. Give him some PP time, and the points will come, and the additional confidence that comes with it. A line of Galchenyuk, Ryder and Pacioretty could do some major, maor damage, if the Plekanec line or a shutdown line like Halpern-Moen-Prust neutralizes the opponents's top line..
I think Eller will be ready. I mean 3rd full season under his belt. All that is left for him to do is get the offensive opportunities. Even undrafted DD didn't have to wait as long after entering the NHL for his chance.
Again this is only if we don't think there is room to sign Ryder. He certainly might become to expensive. I dont think MB trade Cole to give Ryder a Cole contract (4years 4+ mill.) Cole didnt look like he was going to slow down last year so you never know what Ryder will do next year. I believe there is only a 1 year difference in age between them.
Looking at those CApGeek numbers I have a question: How does Chuckie get 3.2+ mil in his rookie year? Isn't that contrary to league policy on rookies? What does Nail get?

Eller is more than capable of replacing dd.
I think the hold up between the Habs and Ryder is he may want a 3-4 year deal and they only want to offer 1 or 2.
«J’aimerais vraiment signer un contrat de longue durée pour avoir plus de stabilité, a-t-il dit. Depuis mes débuts dans la LNH, mon plus long contrat a été de trois ans avec les Bruins de Boston.
