The Kings, left shorthanded by injuries to two forwards, called up winger Michael Mersch, one of the AHL's top goal-scorers, from the Ontario Reign on Wednesday afternoon.

Mersch is scheduled to meet the team in Pittsburgh and will be eligible to play in Friday's game against the Penguins. Given the Kings' situation, Mersch is likely to make his NHL debut.

The Kings are without Kyle Clifford and Trevor Lewis, both of whom are out with upper-body injuries and are questionable for the final five games of this road trip.

Mersch, 23, ranks fifth in the AHL with 12 goals in 19 games. The Kings' fourth-round draft pick in 2011, Mersch turned pro in 2014 after four years at the University of Wisconsin. He totaled 22 goals and 23 assists in 76 AHL games last season.

Truly excited to see what he can bring to this team. The Kings are loaded, with the one major weakness being the bottom six. Think when we get King back with Shore and Brown that solves the 3rd line issue and Mersch will go a long way to improving the awful 4th line wingers.
 
Can't wait to see war Mersch can do. The kid put in his hours and earned his shot with the big club. Meanwhile, somewhere in the North, Bud Holloway is putting on lipstick and throwing darts at a picture of Lombardi. lol
 
Can't wait for Mersch to show he can take over 3 lw and show king as redundant. Mersch is a better goal scorer with a nice nose for the net imo He will take over for King. As neither play the physical game of clifford. I believe Decales said it best when calling Mersch a better skating king. Who is also a lot cheaper cap wise.

And King is better at his cap hit than the $1.6m the Kings are pissing down the toilet on Clifford who has played like a league minimum player this season. Hopefully we can have both King and Mersch in the lineup with one of them contributing something positive from the 4th line spot.

yeah ok just cause u say something doesn't make it so Clifford provides something King doesn't that's is physical play. King may get a few more points but if u look at the mins played its nothing Clifford couldn't with the same mins linemates and opportunity.

Mersch is going to take Kings spot on the roster its only a matter of time wait and see.

Clifford scares me at this point with the concussions. He's had what? Four or five already in his short career? I thought after the last one the time had come to cut your loses. After this one you've really got to think if he comes back and is close to what he was, trade him and see what Andreoff or Nolan can do in that spot the rest of the year, and sign someone in the off-season if needed.
 
The last time this King Clifford agenda started everybody thumped you up and down HF. Resoundingly.

Nobody thump me at all wtf is being thumped anyway/Its the internet seriously Everyone on this board has opinions I happens to state mine This team this year is off to one of its best ever. Do i think King not playing is a reason why HELL YES We have a good solid team without King playing. You can think what you want but guess what so can I. We will see who goes and then when it happens people will see i was right.

I get the concerns on his concussion However i have seen his develope a more of all round game He is not only physical but can cycle with the best of them in the offensive zone. I would not trade Clifford and with the 5 year extension i think dean agrees with my thinking/

Don't forget he was a captain during the preseason.
