I got into late 80's Metallica first too. But a lot of people overrate the Seattle '89 show IMO. It's still great though. And yeah the bootleg of Cliff's last show should be heard by all Metallica fans or just metal fans in general.

Overrate? How? To not overrate is to underrate. You just blew my mind and I don't even know what else to say lol

To live is to die into Puppets, I'll never lose my mind over concert footage the way I did the first time I saw that part. I never looked at the back cover before I watched concert VHS tapes, I always thought surprise was the best to get into it.

Here's another top 5 concert of theirs I always loved the quality and of the drums..

I don't find that much less satisfying than the overrated show lol and you can hear Cliff so I would have a hard time arguing!

Seattle '89 is overrated generally because it's the concert that everyone seems to pick as their best show ever. It wasn't.

While great...I'd take Cliff era footage, San Diego '92, or even their "Monsters of Rock" '91 performance footage over it.

S&M 2 to be performed in September. Really like the first one. Pretty excited for this one.

only old BS for people who came late to their fan club. This band bashed corporate companies up till the moment they signed for big money and then over night, they became that which they bashed
I'c been listening to them since Master of Puppets so ya....

What would you have liked them to do?
Stay poor and stick it to the man? lol
Had social media been around in the 80's they could have started a gofundmenowGODDAMMIT and still stayed true to their soul.

I've really gotten back into the Reload album these days as my taste in music has mellowed and lead me towards acoustic sound (Chris Cornell's/Vedder's later albums)

I blame Bob Rock. He neutered Motley Crue and the Cult too.
The thing that Bob Rock does is apply a formula of music theory that technically works. The problem is that it often eliminates the elements that don't fit, usually raw elements that are technically unsound but often give these bands identity. I can appreciate his production expertise, but I prefer the unrefined sounds.

To me his MO is to dumb it down and add chorus.

Yeah? When was the last time you were able to go to a record store and buy an album and a few shirts, patches, posters or stickers.

They were right.
