As cool as this sounds, I think I'm mostly jealous that a woman was asked what she wanted, gave an honest and realistic answer, and that request is being fulfilled no questions asked. Almost unheard of.

Seriously though, have a great day! Sounds like a nice casual family experience that everyone can enjoy

Im pretty proud of my boys. Although Ive always been. But ever since Nancy started her battle with cancer they really stepped up their game. Whatever mom wants , whenever she wants it, she gats.
We also have hit the senior stage of life where we literally dont need anything. Just experiences that maybe create a memory of us.

My sons asked the Bride what she wanted for Mother’s Day. She picked to go on a hike with baby goats. Yeah, you read that right. We have a private family hike set up for this Saturday. Should be interesting.

That sounds like fun! Watch out though, goats are really cute, but they can be a little rambunctious. If I were you, I'd don my old hockey cup.

Glad she’s feeling well enough to hike with goats. 🐐
That’ll be an adventure none of you will ever forget.

update:

Lewiston has been granted the authority to host a Balloon Festival on the 3rd week of August for 2024.....the Great Falls moniker will be retained by the former Festival organization as the twin cities will now hold a joint Lewiston-Auburn Balloon Festival after the abrupt cancellation of the long running festival after 3 decades

The Greatest Generation.

The Weather Geeks podcast episode was about how the weather on June 6, 1944 played a crucial role in the invasion. They interview John Ross who wrote a book about the subject.

I did not have family in D-Day but it is my understanding that my grandfather on my dad’s side was in France shortly after.

Never forget the sacrifices they made to end the axis of evil and the pain and suffering they inflicted on millions of people simply for just existing.

It is incredible what people did to stop the evil, so many young people sacrificed their lives to save us. A lot of people today have no idea what that sacrifice meant.

I will be going this Friday and Saturday to the "Rock the Country" 2- day music event taking place in the small town of Reddick just north of Ocala. Probably 50 - 60 minutes from my house, parking opens at noon and gates at 3pm each day. It's going to be Hot with temperatures in the mid - high 90s. I've got VIP elevated raised seating down front. Personally looking forward to the Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Kid Rock performances Friday evening and Brantley Gilbert followed by Jason Aldean Saturday night.

4,400 Allied Soldiers/Sailors/Airmen perished on this day, 80 years ago. 2,500 of them were American, 360 were Canadian. Unknown number of French civilians.

20 of them were from the town of Bedford, Va. They were part of A Company, 116th Inf Regiment and they landed at the most heavily fortified part of Omaha Beach. By the end of the day, A Company took 212 casualties, out of 230 men.

The 29th ID in WW2 was a National Guard Division with a significant component coming from Virginia. It explains the high casualty rate for one Company.

My Dad was a Captain in the 26th Yankee Division (Mass NG) in Patton's 3rd Army and fortunately didn't arrive in France until early fall of '44.

He was in The Battle of The Bulge and the 26th sustained about a 50% casualty rate until the end of WW2.

He also had a brother who survived The Baatan Death March and came back alive.

My uncle Christy, not Christopher, was there that day.
He was barely 18. In the Navy. Assigned to an LST. One of those huge landing crafts that dropped off jeeps, trucks and tanks.
They took heavy fire. Got stuck on a sand bar and couldnt get back out. Had to wait for the tide to rise.
Most of his shipmates died.
He survived but my family, grandparents and my mom , had no idea if he had or not.
Information was non existent for a long time.
They finally knew he was alive when a few weeks later they saw him in a photo in Yank magazine. He was in a hospital bed in England.

He never, ever was the same. Never talked about it.

My parents knew a man who landed later on D-Day. He was a truck driver and his cargo was ammunition. On his way he came across an American unit shooting it out with the Germans & they were running out of ammo. He stopped and made several trips from his truck to the unit's position re-supplying their ammunition. He won the Bronze Star with V for his actions that day. All in all he participated in 5 battles. Went back to Normandy for the 50th anniversary. He said the people in those Norman villages treated him like a king.

My bother-in-law's father was one of only 1700 African-Americans to land on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. We lost him in 2017 at age 92. He never really talked about it, but when he heard I was travelling to Warsaw, he joked with me about his trip through Poland after the war ended.

L-A Balloon Festival 2024 has released its logo for the event 8/16-18 2024; as the site develops we'll eventually have a link to it.... but very similiar logo to the Bruins honorary logo that night in support of the tragedy of 10/25

Believe it or not, that's actually a relatively low number for most Infantry Divisions in the European Theatre.

A typical US Infantry Division had a total of about 14,000 men. Here are the top 10 Infantry Divisions that fought in Europe, ranked by total casualties during the war. If you were a member of one of those Divisions at the beginning of the war, the odds of you coming through unscathed were infinitesimally small. Especially if you were in a rifle company. The 1st, 4th and 29th Divisions were the 3 US first-wave assault divisions on D-Day. The 4th and 29th didn't enter combat until D-Day, and sustained all their losses over only 11 months, when the German's surrendered in May '45.

Total Casualties in WWII by Division
25,977 3rd Infantry Division Mediterranean & European
23,277 9th Infantry Division Mediterranean & European
22,660 4th Infantry Division European
20,993 45th Infantry Division Mediterranean & European
20,659 1st Infantry Division Mediterranean & European
20,620 29th Infantry Division European

19,466 36th Infantry Division Mediterranean & European
19,200 90th Infantry Division European
18,446 30th Infantry Division European
17,087 80th Infantry Division European

Anybody running a dehumidifier with a pump either built into it, or downstream of the drain hose? I've got 1000 sq ft or so that I have to dry, but I have nowhere to run the drain hose so I think I'll need to run a good 30 feet of pvc and/or hose into a sink or my sewer main. Probably going to need to elevate 7-8 feet or so.

Right now my best idea is to run a drain hose from the dehu into a sump pit, which I'd have to dig out from scratch, and then plumb a sump pump with check valves. I've yet to come across a dehu that can handle such a long, and tall drain. They're all more of a light drip
