If Sandler had said "The Smiths" it would have made more sense. AND still fit perfectly for the time setting of the movie.

For sure and I’m pretty sure “how soon is now?” Is even featured in the movie later on. The chunky palm mutes Sandler was playing still wouldn’t quite have captured the smiths at their best though- he had the mopey lyrics but man could Johnny Marr layer riffs like no other. I love the cure and the smiths
