was going to say, spent a decent amount of time in the Roanoke/Salem area - if it weren't for the fact that there's no pro sports that interest me that are a reasonable drive from there I'd live there in a second.
Went to college in Salem at Roanoke College and get back there a bit now and again. Always loved that place. Also have a soft spot for Radford as I've got long time friends from there.

I truly don't understand the anti-VA rant. It's a great state with lots of great places. Charlottesville (brother lives just outside in Keswick), Fredricksburg, Winchester from a small city/large town perspective. Also, I'm a fan of Richmond (VCU area in particular) as I've spent a good bit of time there both for work and as a younger guy. Grew up in a very small town in VA and can't think of any other place I'd have rather spent my formative years. My 95 year old dad still lives in that town. To each his own I guess...

Also, there's not a doubt in my mind that the Tidewater area would strongly support a pro sports franchise.

Well I have been in Danville since 88 (sans 4 years in the Navy) and if my wife wasn't an only child that wouldn't leave her parents I would not have come back, also theres not a place i have lived that I wouldnt rather be.

Ok thats funny but no, while I do hate where I live she really is my best friend... most days.
Lol I'm sure thats like anyone else thats been married 29 years this Oct 29th

I brought up the original question because I've been going to Danville on occasion for over 25 years (it's the nearest city to me if I need something I can't get in Roxboro) and I find it particularly dingy. To that end, I hope Danville isn't representative of a lot of other VA cities. On a more optimistic note, I hope the development and revenue the new casino will bring in helps to turn the city around. I mean, that's why Danville was one of the 2 VA cities chosen to receive a casino, wasn't it?

Yeah it might get a little better, but you know the saying you can take the thug out of the city but you can't take the thug out of the thug, or something like that. Im am not lying when I say I am much more comfortable around downtown Raleigh or Cleveland for that matter after dark then Danville. The city's motto should be small town living big town crime.

They have big plans and for the start of it they are coming through, but all the small time gangs that think they are MS13 or the Crips or whatever they think they are, will take some time to remove.

I actually meant her parents, not your spouse. And of course, just in jest. My wife and I have been married 28 years and I feel the same.

And I adore her parents as well.

A friend gave this to me. If I eat more than one piece will my heart literally explode? While it's made in Germany this version appears to have been imported to Finland.
You're probably safe.

Six pieces of Scho-Ka-Kola contain about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. In numbers, one tin (100g) contains 200mg of caffeine.

Bittersweet chocolate (cocoa 23.3% min.), with coffee and kola nut powder. Ingredients: cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, coffee (2.6%), whole milk powder, kola nut powder (1.6%), emulsifiers sunflower lecithin + E 476, flavor. May contain traces of nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soy.

If you decide to eat more than one, we’ll know what has happened. We’ll miss you and appreciate your willingness to be a guinea pig.

I didn't realize crime was that big in Danville, just that it seems kind of dingy and run down. It will be in the interest of Caesar's and the other beneficiaries to make sure the city is a safe attraction. Hopefully that translates to political power that might expedite cleaning up whatever needs cleaning up. When it comes to downtown, I wonder if that big project in the middle of the river might also be a driver in getting things cleaned up.
