Unlike your screen shot which is showing his momentum post-collision?

Funny.

Fabbri’s leg is already in the air. :biglaugh:

I guess he was kicking into space just as Hughes hit him.
His leg is coming off the ice miles before contact lol. Newsflash, he's trying to make a move to his left, as evidenced by Fabbri saying so himself in the article you decided spam along with the clip. And it was your clip, I'd have thought you actually watched it:

Screenshot 2024-12-30 at 10.30.39 PM.png

And here's the contact at the other angle:

Screenshot 2024-12-30 at 10.36.56 PM.png

Just take the L already :biglaugh:

And Necas had nothing to do with the goal.

For that matter, it was ****ing Jackson Blake on an assist from Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Let that sink in.

Don’t want to allow goals, try playing defense.

Saying a call didn't cost them the game when the GWG was literally scored on it is downright laughable, come the f*** on man, you've been a good talk in this thread and I haven't judged your hockey knowledge in this thread like the constant quips you've said to me but we know what you said was wrong. At the worst, they could've nursed 2-2 in OT. Not saying the Devils win but the call + subsequent goal scored on it changed the whole game for them and their thinking in the last 10 mins

If it was his thigh, his pants would be colliding with the knee.

But they are completely visible and it’s the white sock covered knee that makes the impact with Fabbri’s knee.

Thats actually a pretty good illustration of a knee on knee hit.

Thank you.

So you got a penalty called on you. Kill it. Can’t kill it? Score another goal. Don’t let in two more and lose by 3.

Every team goes through this every night. Play to win, not to whine.

If that one event changed the Devils’ entire approach to the rest of the game, that speaks really poorly of the Devils mentally.

And Canes fans would be equally pissed that he came back after it looked like his season was over + came back and was doing that then proceed to call him a diver. What's your point? Also that same move has happened to Jack Hughes before, remember Wahlstrom kneed him a few years back and he missed time from it?
My point is, it literally doesn’t matter. Canes fans would be pissed that he came back and call him a diver. It doesn’t make them right just like it doesn’t make us right here.

An event that happened with 10 minutes to go in regulation time? You're just being absurdly obtuse to the game script. Carolina scores 1 there and they don't have to anything for the rest of the game besides defend and the Devils have to push. The Devils don't get a penalty there and they could legit just defend to OT to get 3 points out of 4 v CAR and take their chances in OT. If that penalty happened in the first or second, your argument would make way more sense

If a Devils player did what Necas did, I would call him out, our fanbase called out Joe Blandisi as a garbage diver. I've also given two examples of a Devils player getting kneed in Taylor Hall in 2018 and Jack Hughes in 2022 where both guys missed time due to knees and didn't return in said game. But yeah, sure, we'd act the same lol

Or they could just kill the penalty, which is part of winning hockey games.

You don’t really get to pull the “we deserved to go to OT” card when you choke a third-period lead, your PK gets beaten by two guys who shouldn’t even be on anybody’s PP, then you give up two more goals, all in context of getting outshot 40-23, and the only thing your coach and players want to talk about is how they got mentally wrecked by a call with half a period left.

No one said they deserved to go to OT, man. Read the actual post before you words in my mouth, I said they'd play the game entirely differently with and without that penalty being called. And you're right, the Canes deserved that game regardless, so it's even funnier that a call like that made the difference

Why would the Devils play differently? Just kill the penalty, and move on. It’s a hockey game, PK’s part of it. If you fail, that’s not on the refs or on the other team. Play defense next time.

And for that matter, why the hell wouldn’t the penalty be called? It was video-reviewed and upheld as a major, what exactly are you wishing for here? That your guy commits a major penalty and doesn’t get called for it? Or are we still on the wish that his opponent would have been seriously hurt?

Of course a pandemic of players jumping out of the way to get “knee’d” to gain major penalties has hit the NHL.

When you watch a team like the Panthers do that 3 times in a 7 games series on way to a Cup, that’s going to stick in players minds and they’ll wonder, Hey why don’t we cheat like that?

Unfortunately 80% of the nhl fanbase couldn’t see it for what it was. Cause of the complete gaslighting and bias shown by NHL commentators that couldn’t read a diving team strategy if they were hand delivered the Coach’s pre-series notes and strategy.

You just literally explained why in your post, lmao. Carolina was the better team all night long and probably wins that game regardless of the bogus penalty call. Devils were playing for OT to get 3 points in 4 on a B2B. If you don't think the Devils changed after Aho scored then I don't know what to tell you.

As for the second paragraph, there was nothing live and they saw Necas on the ground/going gingerly to the locker room "hey maybe let's call something random on Timo and then review it" Quit the bullshit, even your commentators were beyond confused to what happened to Necas and you're the one who's been talking about the Devils commentators so called bias.

There were 10 minutes left! Playing for OT with 10 minutes left is a losing strategy every single time. You can’t just shell up against a team that’s outshooting you 2:1, especially when they just scored on you and are rolling with momentum.

If that’s actually what they were thinking, rather than “let’s play the game right and go get this W”, go ahead and fire Keefe before you get any closer to the playoffs.

Right, they call the major in order to get the video review, knowing they can just wipe it out if there was no penalty at all.

On review they confirmed that not only was it definitely a penalty, but that it was indeed a major. Thus the correct call on the ice, and then verified by team review.

So… why again are you suggesting that no penalty should have been called? It sure sounds like just outright wishing you’d been given a free pass to try and steal an undeserved win. If that’s all this is, just say so.

Sorry Canes fans, your boys a diver.

I can't wait for the argument to be "but but you never fell knee first onto ice with kneepads on, IT HURTS"

Teams do this all the f***ing time, holy shit. You're literally just being dense now. You don't think teams say let's defend and try to get a point on A BACK TO BACK which they already won the first game of? There's nothing wrong with the Devils sitting back on a 2-2 lead and got a point. I've said 100 of times that Carolina was better that game and deserved it. What else do you want me to say? The Devils are garbage for trying to get a point in an undeserved game? f***ing comical at this point. Canes didn't need an Oscar worthy performance to win that game on Saturday.

Also thanks for ignoring the point I made about the Canes broadcast crew being equally lost and confused to what penalty was called.

I didn’t say it never happens, just that it’s a losing strategy every single time.

Tied in a game that will have a 4-point swing in the divisional race, having beaten that same team the night before, having just given up the lead you were holding, and that’s the moment you choose to shut everything down and hold on for dear life hoping nothing bad happens? Cool, enjoy your regulation L. It was coming one way or another, as the rest of the period proved.

Also thanks for ignoring the point I made about the Canes broadcast crew being equally lost and confused to what penalty was called.

What are you talking about? As soon as they showed it on replay Tripp Tracy said the question was whether Meier extended his knee.

Sure he does.

View attachment 952988

At this point, Meier’s left skate is on a trajectory to clip Necas’ left skate.

If he doesn’t change his trajectory, that’s what would have happened.

View attachment 952989

At this point, the point of initial contact, Meier lunges sideways in an attempt to ensure full contact and not a glancing blow or missing him entirely.

You can clearly see his left skate is turned from the angle in the first photo.

If he had connected with the shoulder first, it would have been a clean and textbook open ice hit.

But Necas’ trajectory was taking him out of a direct path so Meier had to lunge to ensure that full contact was made.

As a result of the lunge, his knee collides with Necas’ and the attempted open ice hit becomes a kneeing penalty.
But you don't just skate into checks like a shithead, you actually have to exercise some forward momentum there or you're going to get absolutely obliterated by a guy going like 20+ mph while you think your own body weight is enough to manage. Winning your check is... not new, that's kind of how it needs to work. You have to body the other guy expecting he's going to do that to you.

When that dude bails, what do you do? The game moves slow for players out there at times, but not that slow, Necas put himself in a vulnerable position rather than eat an open ice check. It's his right to do it and Canes fans are saying he does it all the time but you also have to be okay with the idea that sometimes he won't do it right, and that's not on the checking player inherently. If Meier pulls back the left knee now we're talking about a guy who is "launching" into his hit and arguably engaging in the act of jumping. He kept his shit very clearly between the shoulders, that's the athletic position.

The NFL is experiencing this with rushing QBs and if they're abusing the slide rule or not, the spirit is kind of the same. At a certain stage we have to be okay with saying "you did what you did too late and it's not really the fault of the guy whose job it is to hit you, because the rules do say he's allowed to hit you there"

I wasn’t his knee, silly, it was the way his foot twisted up under Amadio as he was falling. In the replay you just posted he very obviously didn’t grab at his knee.

But you going back through 4 years of Twitter to find this is :chef’s kiss:

My lord, you guys would defend this guy on anything. And pretty easy to find unlike the Canes fan who didn't do his research about Luke missing game action on the Colton board and said he stayed down and never went to the locker room like 10-15 pages ago.

Does this look like he’s grabbing his knee to you?

IMG-8443.jpg

In the replay you posted, you can easily see his right foot get caught under Amadio’s body weight as he’s falling, and briefly turn sideways before popping out. You can see him grimace in midair because of it.

Like, literally look at what you posted. Your problem is you were fishing for another knee injury and the Twitter poster got it wrong.
