The bad tonight, PP unimaginative and predictable, easy to defend.

Joki, Wheeler aside from his lucky goal

Leafs line, Antro by far the fastest on the line and most effective, I don't think Ponki brings much, think I would slot Wright in his spot and either dress Scheff and Peluso and drop Wellwood as well

You obviously didn't see Ponikarovsky haul ass up the left side of the ice with the puck. He's big, he's not slow.

barely beat a bad FLA team at home. Pavs still looks like a mess.

"Happy" they won but beat the Leafs and get a road win before I'll get excited again.

Florida has picked it up over the past couple of games though so it was nice to get off the Schnide.

Noel and Pearn looked like they didn't know whether to smile or trade blows after the game

So, is Redmond tracking to be a #4 defensemen, or is he just over-achieving?

He might be playing over his head now, but I think his ceiling definitely 2nd pairing defenseman.

When I first really thought we had something in this kid was last year in the prospects tournament(yeah I know, just a bunch of kids playing each other). I think it was just his demeanor, I'm not sure, but that's when I felt confident I'm his abilities going forward.

Another quick thing to point out, I'm liking the college route for defensemen. I have a ton of confidence in Trouba going forward because of that alone.

Florida had injuries early with guys back there a pretty solid team

What did wellwood bring to the game tonight?

Tough call. He is after all a 24 year old rookie.

I'd still only book him as a #5-#6 guy, but he looks very solid so far. Some minor mistakes, but if he cleans those up he's undoubtedly an NHL defenseman.

One thing I saw him and Postma (and Enstrom sparingly) do was carry the puck up through the neutral zone which helped defeat the Florida forecheck and neutral zone scheme. I think that's something we've missed while Byfuglien was out of the lineup and it looks like both Redmond and Postma are gaining the confidence to play that way which is great to see.

A few nice passes and picked up a trailing player which would have led to an easy goal on an essentially empty net.

Not saying he was great or even good; I'd put Scheifele in over him. But that's what he did.

As much as I know Enstrom is a good player and all, I just hate watching him carry the puck. The angle of that huge stick is so OFF it looks terrible. He's usually only got about 3 inches of the blade down on the ice at any time when he's handling the puck...

Yeah it can look awkward watching him carry it up the ice with the puck(lol), but he's usually pretty solid at it. Idk how he was tonight.

Anyone wanna give me a quick summary on the game? How'd some of the guys look? How'd we play overall and in certain situations?

They played like they were afraid to make a mistake. Not a very convincing offensive game.

Actually FLA played very well. Wasn't an overt firing line but their defensive positioning was very good - cut down lanes and inside stick play as well as bury outside rushing. I'm going to give the Jets all the credit in the world for simplifying things at both ends and minimizing cute plays. Jets maintained sustained momentum and didn't panic when the tables turned. You can't downplay FLA because they did play well, but WPG was better. Have to give credit where credit is due.

This was an excellent team game overall and something very solid to build off of. All basics were pretty well addressed. Good start for turning around an ugly skid.

Had this been any other team then Florida, I don't think we would have gotten the W. That being said no one really had a terrible game by any standards (Wellwood looked terribly unmotivated and slow but didn't cause any bad turnovers). Redmond looked excellent until the 3rd period where he gave up a bad turnover. The rest of our defence was actually pretty good for the most part.

The best line throughout the game was Ladd - Burmi - Little. Little in particular had a great game. I was glad to see him get the goal at the end of the game as he definitely deserved it.

I also want to mention Wright who also had an excellent game. He was amazing on the forecheck and it looks like we picked up an excellent bottom six forward.

Wright is a bigger, faster and smarter version of Machacek. Really think he is fitting in well.

Other than Machacek being quicker, smarter offensively, better hands, better shot, better offensive awareness. They are not at all similar players.

Wright is a big strong twoway player, very responsible defensively. Machacek is more of a wrecking ball, runs around more, not as good defensively, but much much better offensively, more willing to engage physically (sometimes draws himself out of postion).

I think a Wright - Slater- Machacek 4th line would be great, Wright and Thorburn are redundant pieces, IMO.

I know it wasn't a convincing game offensively, but the Jets played a much more cautious and conservative game than they've played in quite some time and it yielded a win. I'll take it. Also, I would say that the shots weren't really all that reflective of how well the Jets took it to the Panthers in the 2nd and 3rd. FYI, Jets directed 56 shots towards the Florida goal, compared to the 37 directed at the Jets goal.

Just got home from the game. We won, but only because Florida was just as uninspired. Little had a good game and I liked Burmi between him and Ladd. Redmond had a nice game and is looking like a keeper.

Happy that we got that win.

I had some critiques, but screw it, we got 2 points...not the prettiest 2, and we gave one to the Panthers, but at least we are back @ .500

I hope we do not lose to the Leafs...of all teams, my buddy will never let me live it down after all the garbage talk I have thrown his way about the Leafs.

By quicker you mean shiftier? I would probably agree with that, but IMHO Wright has much better top end speed than Machacek. Spencer has always struck me as a choppy skater with average top end speed, which does limit what he can do offensively.

I'm pretty much indifferent to both players. They're both dime-a-dozen 4th liners that you're always looking to improve upon, although I would tend towards Machacek having a bit more upside and untapped potential.

Coach Noel post-game

Coach-Noel-February-5-2013-300x225.jpg

Coach Noel audio - Happy team won game, team was tentative in 1st period. Better in 2nd. 3rd managed it but tired hockey team. Liked penalty killing. Powerplay was wild. Team fatigue. Importance of winning. Play of Burmistrov. Play of Pavelec. Team chemistry. Troubling getting into offensive zone. Redmond’s play.
