Because if Richards retires during the contract we get screwed, and there's no chance Nash retires before his contract is up. It's not all about the cap space.

might need a forward instead of a 7th D considering this awful schedule and games on b2b nights.

I would agree with you if this weren't the case. They should be playing Diaz in favor of Moore, however.
