I know the HHOF standards are low... But Marty McSorley would be the worst defenseman in the hall of fame by a significant margin, and I'm pretty sure Dick Duff would be the only comparably bad induction across all positions

Sure, and?

I'm not saying I think he should've been a hall of famer but yes with the inductions we've seen (Lowe being a glaring example) and the connections he has. There is a real possibility that he had a shot at it.

In any case it was a really popular player that smacked a guy on the head and got the longest suspension in history at the time which ended his career so it's going to be remembered
“Smacked a guy on the head”? It was a lot more than that. He was convicted of assault in a court of law.
Clearly he was frustrated by always getting embarrassed in previous fights with the player.

There was zero chance of Marty McSorley ever being in consideration for the Hall of Fame. There is absolutely nothing "maybe" about it.

He had a solid but hardly particularly noteworthy 8-9 years, though even then he often failed to play a full season. None of the seasons were great though. You'd be hard-pressed to even call any of them very good. The remaining years as a part-time player don't add much either.

Or would anyone consider Bruce Driver, Doug Bodger or Sylvain Cote for the HoF? All players with a better career and peak than McSorley. Not to mention someone like Kevin Hatcher, who was on an entirely different level than McSorley, without being a serious contender for the Hall, though at least he's in the US one.

I heard it live and it was a bizarre interview.

He was basically saying that it was the ice and chinstrap's fault for brashear's injury. Then he went on to talk about something kariya did in the following preseason but he didn't get punished for it because of his status.

He was clearly annoyed to talk about it and was basically justifying what he did.
I guess manning up is too hard to do?

4.6 seconds left and maybe the chinstrap would have stayed on had he not wacked it with stick?

McSorely was 36 when it happened and no serious person would ever float him as a possible HHOF inductee, just no one.

Man there was zero percent chance McSorley was getting in the hall without a ticket. Lowe is a terrible comparison. He was a regular all star game participant, along with a Canada Cup selection. He was a key figure in six cups, not a role player in 3.

Yeah, Lowe was somewhat of a star....a defensive star, who, at his best, even moved the puck decently well. But, at least a defensive star.
