A bit soft, Minty was losing a bit of balance from what it looks like.

I think it was only called a major originally so that the officials could review the play at slow mo speeds. At that point they were committed to either calling the major or negating it completely (no two min minor option iirc). Not having the two min option they gave McMann the gate & Lybushkin the instigator & 10 min misconduct to balance things out. As a Ducks fan I would have been ok with nothing being called other than the two fighting fives.

Looks clean to me, let alone 5 minutes

Shoulder to shoulder hit

Is it a penalty for the player to hit the boards? Nearly every hit in the offensive zone is boarding if the requirement is simply the player touches the boards.

It can be, depends on the severity of how they hit the boards. I think this falls under Boarding technically, though there's a huge amount of ref discretion behind it and it's not consistently enforced.

41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously

I don't see the penalty here, it was well within the standard time for a clean hit after he passed the puck, it was from the side. I don't think that was a penalty at all
All of this is true, meaning he shouldn't have been called for interference or Rule 48.

What was the call, though?

I mean I didn’t think it was that bad but by that definition it was definitely boarding 100%.

No, they changed the rule going into last season. You can reduce a major to a minor.

How is shoulder to shoulder defenseless?

How does describing what body parts are contacting each other have anything to do with whether a player is defenseless or not?

He's trying to shoot the puck in while gaining the red line. Not ready for a hit.

In my opinion the leaf player needs to realize that and also realize that he's a dangerous distance from the boards and not take the body there, just go for the stick check and deny him the red line. It looks like icing should have been called on the play because i don't see him gaining the red line.

Unnecesssary hit.

Take hitting out of the game or have a player hold up an I'm ready sign when he wants to be hit?

Who cares if he's ready - he's eligible to be hit in the shoulder while playing the puck

end thread/

That's technically boarding but I'm not sure being super technical is the best way to analyze a hit's dirtiness.
