it's time to discuss this. ignore the oilers fans in denial and let's discuss where the best player in the league ends up after this season.

post your team's real cap compliant offers.

oilers won't trade him to the canucks so i'll spectate.

in terms of a trade it will be close to Eichel…..

1st, decent not top 5 prospect, another prospect/2nd that becomes a 1st, and w decent roster players that are close to $9M+ combined salary or players are due one in the summer.

a minute ago you said he's walk to free agency. you seem contrarian.

Yes, I said he was going to walk to free agency, most likely, but you said that you believed that some teams would offer their best forwards. I'm simply saying that would be unlikely in the scenario of him asking for a trade because I don't see them bothering to do so when they could simply wait out his contract.

I'll bet my life savings and that of my grandchildren as well they will fire Holland well before the thought of McDavid being traded by him is ever entertained.

"Oiler fans in denial" lol... More like Oiler fans in reality.

That likely isn’t happening. They just sign him as a UFA.
Chicago isn’t sending you bedard for him.
Boston isn’t sending McAvoy nor Nor Pasternik

That's exactly my point. Every other team will just wait out his contract.

The Oilers cannot trade their way out of this hole, just like they can't draft or develop. Even if they somehow do trade McDavid, do you really trust them to use the picks they get right?

They passed on Dobson, Barzal, Zegras, Wallstedt. Are we supposed to believe now that they'd get their shit together when even having the best players in the game (as per many fans and critics alike) has them with nothing but Jack Campbell and the defensive circus in front of him?

Well, you're in luck. You can keep 'em because he's most likely walking.

teams aren't waiting 3 years for mcdavid if they think they can get him now. oils are not letting him walk to free agency.

and teams are not going to hesitate to offer assets to get mcdavid

otherwise great post.

How do you know Oilers aren't? What's McDavid's incentive to bail them out? The ball's in his hands. They have failed him for a near decade. There's nothing I've seen that says he's above pulling a Kawhi/Lillard and asking to be traded to a specific team.

I just don't see him being traded. And again, this is the Oil. Do you honestly think they'll get a good deal? This is the same org that thought Griffin Reinhart was a good idea.

NJ has assets they could spend on McDavid...

Hischier
Bratt
Holtz
Mercer
Meier
Nemec
Marino
Siegenthaler
Casey
2 of their next 3 1sts

Not really sure what combination of assets would work for both sides but it does look possible a deal could be made. At least one of NJ's long term money deals would need to go the other way most likely.

Must be young. Older best players need new contracts soon or will have trade protection. Edmonton without 97 will be on a lot of NTC's.

Has to have lots of years of control.

sabres and nj could dangle a couple of those. wings could do something but would have to add draft picks. ottawa has been signing guys longterm and is well positioned. stutzle plus could work.

but i think other teams with older rosters could offer some creative value by peeling off one ot two current good players and bundling them with futures..

to me, mcdavid is the only player for whom you give up your 1c if you are in a position to support mcdavid now. he can win a cup if he joins a playoff team without too many current assets going the other way.
