Player Discussion McDavid

Crickets. If he was healthy that is very worrying to me.
Don't you remember game 7 last year? I think it's mental with him and he gets nervous in the biggest game when everyone watches to see if he performs. 4 nations too he was having a bad game until that shot in overtime. I thought that win would give him a taste of big moment wins. He never won in junior either and in biggest moment didn't come through. He is the greatest talent we have seen in many decades but just has his worst games at the biggest moment. He needed to get over the hump this year. A massive opportunity in game 5 to really put oilers in drivers seat. What did he do?? Powerplays in first period and did nothing with no urgency when first goal was so important. I still hope he signs her because our core is good to make a few more runs. Our defense was good and we can add more . Our forward group will be improved with aggressive moves this off season and yes maybe an upgrade in goaltending. It will be very disappointing if McDavid ditches oilers after he himself failed to perform in 2 straight stanley cup finals. 3rd times the charm. He wants to win with oilers so sign and let's get 4 more kicks of the can. Sign 4 years at 16 mill

If there is no surgery in this offseason and he comes back looking off shots all season long then I'd be 100% confident in saying that his best is behind him. The McDavid that we need to win the cup against Florida is the one that hits and can create and score with his own shot.
You do realize mcdavid is 80 percent pass guy his whole career. The only exception is that one year drai challenged him to shoot more and mcdavid did it just to prove he can score 60 if he tried. The next year back to looking off shots and passing. His whole career since his first year he always looked to pass first. We can scream shoot and to us watching he should shoot but in his mind he wants to set someone up and have everyone like him. And he is 28 and still in his prime. He just will never be that guy with a killer instinct

He's always been pass first but he used to be a 40ish goal guy at least, not the last 2 seasons.

Seriously you guys need to take a break. Your takes are crazier and crazier lol

This is the best way for him to win a cup in a hard cap world. There is no refuting it, its just basic math.

To be clear, nobody actually thinks he'll do this, lol. This is all just hypothetical. McDavid will sign for some crazy deal and will very likely never win a cup, barring some miracle run on a team later in his career. But there is no question that him, and any other star player for that matter, puts themselves in the best statistical position to win a cup by signing the cheapest deal possible. Again, its just math.

That's not the same lol and if you don't believe mcdavid would take less money if he knew he would win a cup here then your wrong

Well we already have 1 data point, where he was the highest paid player, so didn't take a cut. We'll have another data point here right away, with whatever team he signs with, where I expect him to also not take a cut and become the highest paid player in the league. We don't need to "believe" anything, we have data.

He both became the highest paid and took a paycut.

Both can be true

Just give it up. He can win a cup here in next 4 years. Time for you to take a long break from hockey talk and enjoy the summer

Actually you're wrong again. Mcdavid left lots on the table when he signed for 8 years, that is a well known fact. You're always freaking out about anything Mcdavid and overreacting to everything. Find a hobby and enjoy the summer or concentrate on work lol .Just coming by to browse these boards and I see that not much sanity going on. Kevy is going to be enjoying summer and work for the rest of summer😁👋👋

Nobody forcing you to read man, lol.

He didn't leave "lots" on the table. On Oilersnation the other day I believe they said it was speculated that he left $500k on the table per year, so about 5%. I said in a previous post that some players will take 10-15% discounts to stay in good situations, so McDavid's last contract somewhat fit that description. For him to win a cup though, every dollar he leaves on the table is a dollar the team can spend on support for him (same goes for any other high end player). So taking less money increases your chances of winning a cup, there is no debating this.

Again, this is all just conversation, as players basically never take big cuts, and I don't blame them.
