Player Discussion McDavid

Elliot reported he's privately unhappy with the goaltending.

I swear this organization is so stupid they'll trade mcdavid before firing Schwartz.
Again he specifically mentioned Florida having a great goalie being one of the key difficulties in the series. He outed the Oilers goaltending without saying in words.

Genius really in the way he answers sometimes. Skilled answer and looking at goaltending disparity without being callous about it.

I'm sure Leon and Connor have talked about the goaltending for years. I think its also why Pickard got much more usage.

Not to mention the amount of times that they say they love playing with Pickard.

What could be more obvious?

Katz needs to ask himself if it’s worth losing a billion dollars to keep Dustin Schwartz around, because that will be the hit to his franchise’s valuation if Connor walks.

In 5 years, the NHL will likely have expanded again by 2 teams, its being forecast. HRR will have thus increased. The point is that the Sal cap appears to be on a significant upward trajectory. If he signs for the full 8 years now, he foregoes the ability to leverage more of those future cap dollars.
Yes i am sure the nhl needs this the nfl has already done it

Oh man Pierre LeBrun is just an absolute clown show. He's driving the McDavid destination rumors, rampantly. First it was Toronto, then New York, then Dallas and now Tampa. Where is he pulling this shit from, and some point he should be disciplined for spreading false information with real credible no source at all, slander and encouraging tampering

Can't wait for the Leafs pipe dream to turn into a nightmare, and for Connor to make this speech next month

You punish those by not giving them any info

Why? The league splits revenue. Oilers valuation is more about how much he has the city bent over lol all the teams getting more or less same revenue given to them, then they more or less have the same expenses. All the teams are worth the same. Until you realize katz can make 4 billion profit off the leverage he got from the oilers. Like vito in john wick " the leverage i had on that city, f***ING PRICELESS!!!!" LMFAO Then the valuation is also impacted by how much the city sucks his cock ie the city gave him 400 million dollars in the form of the arena and some only get 100 million or 20 million lol that is where the valuation comes from, not connor. Connor is key to NHL value, which is why they sign nhl contracts.

If McD is declining in production somewhat, and not injured then this wouldn't necessarily be his best play.

Lots to think about for McD. Its good for him that he's taking his time. Good for us too because its beneficial for the org to again realize the seriousness of this offseason.

Last offseason was complete garbage. I'm sure McD is reminding the org of that. he did too in his exit comments where he was saying the team lacked speed players in the final. (Oh, like McLeod, Holloway, Broberg) couldn't be that? ;)

Also when he specifically mentioned Panthers having a great goalie as one of their winning attributes.
Mcdavid always seems like that guy too nice to speak up. He vents in his group chat to his teammates but at the same time Brandon f***ing Manning being on this team? Even after Chiarelli said "Connor was okay with it".

Yes we've had shit goaltending for years because our captain is a nice team player who doesn't want to criticize.

Time to be cut throat and call out the weak links of goaltending and his friend nurse. Do you want to win cups or do you want fun at the club house?

He likely merits a 15x8 and 120 total if he wants it. Off the top of my head say 72 million post tax income - he can borrow against that and take out 72 million in loans, invest it, and collect a 3% interest differential july 1 2025 to july 1 2026 which is worth 2-2.5 million dollars.
Highest years I see McDavid signing is at a 5 and with lax trade protection after year 2-3 so he can move on if the management keeps failing him (or vice versa)

Elliotte Friedman reported 32 takes his keep doing the same thing comment about goaltending. He's basically signalling he wants changes. Bowman also noted goaltending is an area they'll look to improve.

Naturally none of our gutless reporters asked why it wasn't done before playoffs.
One reporter asked Bowman if he wished that he had done more at the deadline at least. Not sure who it was but it sounded like a woman's voice.

How has management kept failing him? They have given him many playoff teams a bunch of elite talent all the money he could want superstar treatment etc. lol They went to a wcf and two cup finals. This year was closer than last year where florida didnt show up for three games then when they took it seriously again won the fourth game they could have won in game 4. He is not an idiot, he can sit down and run some numbers and go "I chose money over winning" lol I do not mean he should play for 1 million or he didnt leave a million on the table each year, but he has to understand the amount he gets paid will impact his quality of team/likelihood of winning and NO team in the NHL will ice the florida you saw this year if barkov is making 16 and tkachuk 14. McDavid's 12.5 has had similar effects only offset by drai's sweetheart deal. No player til barkov won with an 8 figure cap hit.

In light of that, there is no reason for him not to go 8. If he doesnt, it is 100% about money only.

Its 2025 and one of my pet peeves is they still can't get audible on the questions asked. makes it harder to understand answers not knowing what they are deferring to.

Can anyone name a team that's gone to the finals flip flopping their goalies through the whole playoff run? Honest question, it's seems like such a glaring hole.

Thinking of Fleury and Murray recently? But Fleury was a cup winner and elite for many years. Wasn’t unreasonable to think he could get it together. But Murray just stole the show and ran with it. We had no Murray in the wings waiting for an opportunity and we had no cup winner goalie with many elite seasons to start with. We started with a bag of meh and ended with a bag of poo.

They also had actual defense in front of them and not pretenders like Nurse, Bouchard, Ecccckholm, and Klingberg.
Their D wasn’t that good with Letang out. They had Justin freakin Schultz as a key player on D. They had forward depth and good 2 way wingers that helped the D throughout the playoffs, always grinding, always making themselves available to heap breakouts.

Their third line was a key part of both of those cup wins with Kessel and Bonino dominating lower lines of other teams. Florida did similar to us while our pitiful forward group diminished to being a 1 line team again with a bunch of wingers throughout the lineup clueless along the boards in our zone. Clueless everywhere most of the time really.

Oh. Pens also got elite goaltending in both of those runs too, how could I forget hehe.

Bottom 6 still broke even 5 on 5 this years series with 4 goals a piece. That should be more than good enough on this team. We lost because our top 6 was outscored and our special teams were garbage.

A lot of chatter if a 5 year or even 3 year deal.

Logically for mcdavid, not for Edmonton, the smart thing to do would be look around the league if he doesn't care about term.

Staying in Edmonton the max benefit is only we can offer 8 years.

Hopefully it's 8 but I wouldn't get his logic if he reupps for 3 or 5 here. What happens if he gets kneeordanioed a few more times? It happened to Pavel bure who played a similar game.
