12 goals 28 pts in his 17 after Leon got hurt but okay I guess
Meanwhile werenski collapses after the Olympics, tied for the most turnovers leading to goals, most giveaways and less points and yet he wins the Norris. I get it’s not exactly the same as the hart but let’s be real that is what it has turned into. They need to overhaul the voting process.

The PHWA has drifted away from the NHLPA voting recently. It's about the story to them and not logic. Nonetheless, the usual talking heads will run a bunch of articles about voting transparency and tough choices today in an attempt to cover their asses.

Even the Jack Adams winner bragged how Kuch got a huge advantage over everyone else by not playing at the Olympics, and got to finish the year with a huge boost of energy (yet he still collapses in playoffs).

And somehow the MVP of the league has the Vezina winner on his team, lol.

The writers really are making a mockery of these awards. Just completely useless. Glad McDavid probably barely cares at all about these individual awards anymore.

It needs to just be a best player award. It's asinine to have an award where the voters all make up their own criteria for what the award *actually* stands for. I have no idea why the most valuable player has to play on a playoff team, and now you either have to be on an elite team or a bubble team to be considered. Say there were two identical players, and one finished in the second wildcard, and the other finished third in the division, I guarantee the voters would give it to the guy on the second wildcard team, because he's "more valuable", when they're actually exactly the same amount of valuable.

It's dumb.

Ted Lindsay is basically the "best player" award. The NBA should actually have something like that.

The Hart doesn't matter, it used to matter somewhat, as it used to just be viewed as the "MVP award". But it has largely not been that award in quite some time now. Who cares. Honestly, who cares about any of the awards that are voted on my reporters.

I started my job at Warner Bros last month.
I was onboarded with a couple of local ESPN broadcasters and I was talking to one guy who covered Boston.

We did get onto the subject of award voting (he did vote for the Hart), and he literally does not watch any Western Conference Games. A bunch of these games literally start at 11pm, I have to put myself through some horrible sleep to follow the Oilers which is getting harder as I get older. He has kids too, and doesn't have the time. Heck he really only watches Boston-based sports, but might loosely follow other teams when the Bruins miss the playoffs or get eliminated.

To vote for these awards, he just guages narratives from Twitter, Reddit, here on HFBoards (Boston and Mains) and talks to the other sportscasters, and just forms his opinions organically. He didn't give a shit about analytics, or really think too deeply about anything.

I can DM him again to see who he voted for, but he really just goes with whatever the primary narrative sounds like.

My best friend votes for the Acadamy Awards, and he doesn't even watch almost any of the nominated movies.

People really need to drop the importance they put on these award, because once you see how the sausage is made, it's a pretty lame criteria.

Yup, its why I think coaches or players should be the only people who vote on any awards.
