Werenski had the same amount of turnovers leading to goals as Bouchard, the most giveaways and 14 less points. I Still don’t know how he won. The numbers say otherwise yet most seems to think it was deserved. Guess I am missing something. But that is what I mean. The voters suck and are so biased.
One could argue that Werenski had less to work with on the Blue Jackets and had a marginally better goal-scoring season. Time-on-ice may also favour Werenski. More total and even strength TOI for Werenski. More powerplay and shorthanded TOI for Bouchard.

You could make that argument, it's as bad as all the other arguments. You act the like the scoring was close, not a full 14 pts gap.

Still find it amazing how anytime an Oiler shows that they are deserving of this type of award the y decide to change the criteria. In the past decade only two of the highest scoring defenseman haven’t even been a finalist for the Norris. Barrie and Bouchard both Oilers. Meanwhile all we keep hearing is how important it is for the winner to be on a playoff team. Guess they decided that this year playoffs didn’t matter much?

Don't get me wrong, I would have voted for Bouchard as number two, but I don't think the way they vote for the Norris as 'best offensive defenseman' makes much sense. I generally love offensive hockey for entertainment purposes, but I think the best all-around defensemen should be the bigger factor in the voting. If I tried to dig deeper into the stats, I could probably make a better argument for Werenski as my choice, but this is the wrong thread and I would need a day or so.

Anti-Oilers bias on the part of the voters? Maybe?

I haven't heard of making the playoffs as being a factor in the voting the Norris, unlike for the Hart.

Bouchard was #1 the entire time, it's just "fun" to build narratives for the underdog.

all of it is such bs, just changing the narrative to get away from the babcock stuff. Why would mcdavid now sign 7 years when he only did 2 this time around with an even worse constructed roster.

He can’t sign an extension until July 1st next year. This is just Stauffer trying cover for the backlash the organization is receiving over Babcock.
I'm sure that's part of it, though stauf doesn't often speak on behalf of the players, he's aware of what making those kind of statements can mean

These statements don’t mean anything. It can’t be proven or disproven for a full year. There’s no way Stauffer isn’t saying this to try and calm the waters after the Oilers have pissed the entire fan base off

Ok then. We will have to wait and see, seems like the NHLPA will end up bailing out the Oilers.

As expected, Kucherov wins the Hart.. close vote though

Clowns putting McDavid 3rd and 5th more to rob him.

People treating hart like it has to keep rotating if the same guys are the contenders.
Yup. This is why the media should have no business voting for awards. Mcdavid was robbed again. Carried edm into the playoffs without draisaitl.
