Two radically different players. It's like comparing Gretzky (McDavid, sniper/playmaker) versus Mario (Lindros, physically dominant/skill).

If we are talking peak, I'll go Lindros.

Some may be tempted to go with Lindros since McDavid had a rough last couple of games in the SCF, but Lindros was effectively shut down in the '97 Cup Final by Detroit, so there's that.

McDavid is simply better. Lindros never won an Art Ross. McDavid has five. Lindros was more physically dominant (obviously), but he wasn't a better player.

Different types of players in a different era of how the game was played and officiated. Lindros would get killed in this era, like he did carrying the puck during his. And McDavid would need to change how he plays to survive in the Lindros era.

I’m the biggest Lindros fan on earth. And I’d place them close. But McDavid despite having an ego is much more of a team player than Lindros. This makes a difference. Lindros struggled to win. Mcdavid is much more skilled, as well. But Lindros had a physical game that was 11/10 much like McDavid’s speed. So that shouldn’t be undervalued. But McDavid will go down as a top-5 er and Lindros might not be a top-20 er. Would have been fun to see a career without injuries. But this one is clearly McDavid. Either career or peak. IMHO.

The next one looked very promising but never got the hardware he deserved thanks to concussions.

Bure and Lindros shouldve lasted longer

Lindros came damn close to winning the Art Ross in 94-95 though. Just lost out on the tiebreaker of goals scored.

On a per game basis, Lindros was head to head with Jagr for 4 years (1993-94 to 1996-97) barely behind him, and ahead in some years (1994 and 1996).

And behind only Lemieux, Gretzky and Neely's outlier 50 goals in 49 games season

PPG finishes: 1, 2, 3, 3.

I'd still lean McDavid, but if we define peak by who would you take at their absolute best rather than best peak season, it gets closer.

True, but I don't think he was in the same tier offensively.

McDavid has blown away guys like Kucherov and MacKinnon in the scoring race in some seasons. Those are some of the most talented players of the last 25 years. In fact, offensively, Lindros is probably closer to MacKinnon than he is to McDavid.

He was more physical and could dominate possession and tilt the ice with the best of them in his day, but McDavid can control play, dictate the pace and dominate possession without excessive physicality and is more aware on the ice and less susceptible to injury. He's a better playoff performer as well.
