McDavid taps out Peter Fosberg

Call me old .. and delusional. And trust me it pains me to praise him .. but I’ll take prime Peter over Conor . No question Conor is more skilled .. but Peter had a lot more of the killer instinct in him and the fire to be a menace when it really mattered

If you don't know how McDavid's first name is spelled, you probably don't know much else about him, including how much better he is than Forsberg.

Great accomplishment but I’m taking prime Forsberg and Sakic over Mcdavid and Draisaitl any day.

I hope you are never a GM, unless it's for a team I root against.

People saying they'd take Forsberg over McDavid is just peak HF. I even saw one doofus say he had more of a killer instinct.,, than the guy who's been producing at 2ppg in the playoffs lmao.

Put McDavid on a team with prime Roy, Sakic, Blake and two years of Bourque and he has multiple cups as well. Likely more than 2.

they even won one of those Cups with Forsberg missing half the Playoffs

try and imagine the Oilers doing that with McDavid missing half the Playoffs without breaking down into laughter in the attempt

Just because Forsberg was good defensively as a 34yr old, doesn't mean he was when he was a 24yr old. He accumulated plenty of points being average defensively, before putting more of a focus on it later in his career. Yzerman did the same, but it was more drastic.

HFB relies way too much on reputation for these kinds of thing sometimes.

Edit: It seems I am mistaken, as a few have pointed out. Perhaps I'm mixing up Forsberg with Sakic in that regard? I'm not sure but either way - the above is false.

I can’t imagine a world where McDavid isn’t far and away the best on his team. I never thought Foppa was better than Sakic and Roy, always put them all in the same category.

McDavid is special.

Well this post is just blatantly false. He finished 2nd in Selke voting and was known as an elite two-way player as early as 1997. Forsberg was probably at his best defensively in the late 90s, which was also when he killed the most penalties.

Forsberg was an incredible player. I think he would have been rated way, way higher if he were Canadian.

His career was obviously heavily affected by injury and it's hard comparing across eras, but I think McDavid is clearly the bigger talent.
Offensively their arent many players in history I would put in the company of Lemieux, Gretz, Messier and Sid (sorry Guy, Espo and Orr I never saw you guys play) but McDavid is one of them. Who is the better hockey player that one is easy for me.

Actually you have it reversed. Forsberg was better defensively when he was younger then when he was older.

He came into the league with a rep for being a high end two way guy. What are you talking about?

Messier wasn’t any better offensively than Forsberg, doesn’t really deserve mention among Crosby offensively.

Forsberg was awesome. This coming from a guy who never liked the Avalanche but I would wear #21 because I loved how Forsberg played the game but at the end of the day what was he a top 10 player during his time when he was healthy?

Comparing him to the clear cut #1 of this generation isn't a fair comparison

With a goal and assist against New Jersey, Connor McDavid passed Peter Forsberg on the all time points list. McDavid now has 313+573=886 career points versus Peter Forsberg who has 249+636= 885 career points. McDavid did it 11 years faster than Forsberg as well, since McDavid is only 26, while Forsberg was 37 when he left the NHL. McDavid also played only 83.6 % of the amount of NHL games that Forsberg played. Beating Forsberg in points like this is huge! Especially since many here on HF Boards used to put Forsberg amongst the Top 25 players of all time back in the d

Quite the trolling and/or sensationalist phrasing.

Especially the usage of ”11 years faster and ALSO in 83% of the amount of games Forsberg played.” As if the second fact doesn’t cancel out the first.

Forsberg was top 5 forward when he was healthy. He was just never really healthy which sucks. Just like Lindros.

Just imagine this.

Player X is just 26 years old

Player X just passed Peter Forsbergs all time point totals

Fan Y still saying Peter Forsberg is better

Guess who Fan Y is ?

I have no idea who Y is. I want to point out however Y’s opinion should not create an argument that many fans claim Forsberg was better than McDavid. I really can’t see that being the case.

It’s been common over the years how legit claims of Forsberg’s greatness - and a few exaggerated claims - trigger people into saying he’s way overrated etc.

This is an example of a downplaying exaggeration. He was called best in the world quite a few stretches of his career.

Classic mulletman... Don't know who's better at coming up with these, him or lilpucks.
It's pretty insane how quickly McDavid is climbing. If he ages well, we might be watching the second highest scorer in league history.
Maybe, maybe not. Almost everyone thought Ovi would get to 894 easily up until recently. It's evident now that it's probably going to be a struggle, if he makes it at all. McDavid does have the benefit of playing in higher scoring era than Jagr though. But hey, not like that matters when it comes to raw point totals or anything, lol.
When McDavid has his whole heel bone cut and moved, then cut off again and moved back you can pm me.

Wow... I did not need that mental imagery.

I’m pretty sure I included saying how much better he is than Forsberg . You got me in the spelling .. good work bud …now that leaves us with who I’d rather have on my team especially in the playoffs you know ?? An opinion and all . Sorry mine doesn’t align with yours .

I hope you are never a GM, unless it's for a team I root against.there’s
