McDavid surpasses Ovechkin in all time playoff points

He would get just as embarrassed as the current 3x Selke Center that is trying to shut down McDavid in this series
Datsyuk won the selke 10x in his career and he was many levels above Barkov. Are you kidding me with your comparison? He would Deke out McDavid out of his jockstrap. It wasn't just Datsyuk who was great defensively, add in Lidstrom, Hossa, Zetterberg etc. Then you had Franzen, Kronwall and others in terms of depth. Same thing with Chicago Blackhawks who had so much depth and so many great defensive players and gamers. Both of those teams had stacked defense. Oilers would not be able to beat those teams at their peak but keep proving your recency bias.

🤣🤣🤣

The reason I said specifically 3x Selke winner was because Datsyuk was also a 3x Selke winner

The fact that you claim that he has 10 puts you in the category of clueless or troll. Not sure which one it is but either is a bad look for you.

The bad look for you is that McDavid still lost the cup to Barkovs team. The Oilers got dominated in the 2nd game and the series is tied 1-1 this year. So I don't get what your point is?? You act like the Oilers have won multiple cups with McDavid and have beaten Florida in playoffs and you call me a troll
Datsyuk has won cups, McDavid has not. Talk to me when he wins a cup, otherwise all this bragging is a moot point. McDavid is a great player but he needs to win a cup before he can be compared to the great players that already have won the cups.

My point was you embarrassed yourself by claiming Datsyuk had 10 Selkes. Such a large mistake would not be possible for someone who knows puck. Then you reply to me with a bunch of irrelevant nonsense about the series being 1-1 to try and save face, but you make it even worse. Then you add the "McDavid needs a Cup to be compared to greats who have won Cups" nonsense line too just for good measure, which is always the hallmark of a clueless hockey fan.

People like to exaggerate but am sure you take everything said to you as literal. The hallmark of a clueless fan is someone that keeps bragging about a player that hasn't won a cup and thinking he would embarrass legends that already have won cups and selkes. First of all, how do you know McDavid would embarrass Datsyuk?

Ovi and Crosby would never sniff a cup if this Florida team was around

What a horrendous take. The 2015-2018 (yes, the team that lost to the Caps even) Penguins are miles ahead of this Florida team and any team currently in the league. 2015-2016 in particular is one of the greatest cup teams of the last 3 decades - utter buzz saw.

The years of going through Bob (in his prime - current Florida goalie mind you), Lundqvist, Rinne, Jones - where they were supposed to be the difference makers are incomparable to a league where a trash goalie like Skinner gets a team in to the finals.

Florida's depth stands out as an exception where it would be a standard only a decade ago. This Florida team doesn't get through Tampa or Washington - and I say that as a big (albeit neutral) fan of what Florida has done.

People are always quick to forget. But the goalie depth and ticky tac calls these skaters are getting are completely different than even a decade ago. Bennett makes headlines with some borderline plays that wouldn't even be discussed in those prior playoffs.

I’m not sure how they will deal with Florida’s aggressive forecheck. Florida is more physical than any anything the Penguins faced. The Pens never played someone will this forecheck. I feel like you’re not giving them credit for the chemistry they have defensively, meaning playing them would be Crosby’s toughest challenge yet.

and I say that as a big (albeit neutral) fan of what Florida has done.

You’re nostalgic about your favorite team’s cup success, and are propping up the opposition. So you aren’t a neutral.

Pretty impressive. At the end of the day, It's very likely that he ends up in second place for most career points in both the regular season and the playoffs.
295 points is second place for the playoffs, McDavid needs to double his points from now, not likely.

He has 148 points right now, will finish mid 150s then needs 140 more, that's a tough hill to climb in a salary cap NHL and possible injuries, upsets ect.....

Regular season is much more likely though as he 'only' needs 840 more to pass Jagr and will be 29 next season..

All depends on how long the Oilers are a contender and if he goes to another contender when their streak ends.

Datsyuk would shut down both McDavid and Drai. He was that good. Then add in Hossa, Zetterberg and others. Wings were built like a dynasty back then.
If he was that good the Penguins wouldnt have a cup....Florida only has Barkov who probably wins 3+ Selkes by the end of his career matched against them its like you are saying that they are going against a terrible team and Florida has an incredibly strong top 9 not simply a few stars.

Ovechkin is almost top 10 for points now.

He'll never catch Ron Francis mind you.

It kinda helps when Crosby has not made the playoffs in 3 years, probably 5 when McDavid passes him. Not to mention Sullivan could not get his team past the 1st round or hell, even the tryins over Montreal. Let's not forget Drai was used as his linemate when Malkin did not get used as a wing like Drai.

Let’s also not forget that McDavid is likely going to hit 200 points about 50 games quicker than Crosby.

It’s kinda crazy how Ovi has played 161 playoff games while making it out of the second round only once. The Caps have been making the playoffs for so long that you’d expect them to go deeper a few times. Can’t complain about a cup though.

I seriously think the difference between Sid having three cups and Ovi having three was the 2016 and 2017 Pens-Caps series.

How did you select which players to include here?

Ovi has a decent playoff resume, McDavid has an elite one, nothing wrong with that.

Ovi has a ‘decent’ playoff resume?

He’s 12th all time in goals, 35th in points. Conn Smythe winner.

That’s exceedingly territory all-time (8,000 players have played in the NHL since its inception).

Can always go by games played 🤷‍♂️

Coz he will pass Crosby with less games played aswell

Jack, they did not get "dominated", don't be silly. Florida dominated the 2nd period, but Edmonton otherwise controlled the majority of play. It's been an evenly matched pair of games thus far. I think Edmonton's skaters have been a bit better (with McDavid and Draisaitl being the primary difference makers) while Florida has been able to hang in there with better goaltending.

Okay I will rephrase it.

Ovi has decent playoff resume considering where people are placing him in an all time sense.

His all time ranking depends much more on the regular season than playoffs than most players being ranked around him.

He is generally considered the second best player since the lockout but in the playoffs his overall value is really nowhere near that high and arguable in the lower top 10, or even just outside of the top 10, of forwards instead of second.
