McDavid Gets 3-games

In all seriousness, I wouldn't be opposed to calling up a goon from Bakersfield for the sole purpose of pulling a Dennis Wideman the next time this happens. Take the suspension and send a strong message back the other way.
Dont think taking out the refs with a crosscheck is in the cards lol

Obvious they were afraid of being seen as lenient just because it's the best player in the world, so they throw the book at him instead AND give Myers the same which is ridiculous. Remember lumberjack Pietrangelo got one game.

If they're gonna be this harsh on Connor for finally snapping at the BS he endures and has ensured for a decade, they should also be committed to addressing the larger issue.

Does anyone think they're committed to addressing the larger issue?

I wish this would of been a bigger story league wide, but, probably just going to go down as crybaby McDavid, crybaby Oiler fans
Nailed it. That’s exactly how the story is going to go. Flame and Cuck fans I’m unfortunate enough to be associated with are already running with that. Oh … and don’t forget, they always care about the children. Think of all the kids who look up to McDavid, think of his responsibility as a hero to the wider community. It’s only natural that the league would want to be seen disciplining him seriously etc etc. But what’s plain as day is that the only reason they are delighted about this is because it’s bad for McDavid and it’s bad for the Oilers. Zero objectivity.

Hm, 3 games for McDavid seems a little excessive given that the player has no history, the victim wasn't injured, and the incident was obviously premeditated by the perpetrator being illegally held down on the ice. Given all factors, I think 1 or 2 games would have been about right.

Probably the reason it's more is that the next six games are in Edmonton, and I assume ESPN isn't doing any of them? If any Oilers' were on the road, they'd probably have given him a lighter penalty.

Add to this precedence. 3 games in the NHL is actually a pretty significant suspension. There are many examples of a lot worse that got less than 3 games.

Because, as fluffy as it is, he was called up for Team Canada. If he didn't want to go in the first place and said so, fine. But not to go because the league suspends you 3 games it's childish and would reflect poorly on him.
He is actually starting to look like a chump with the way the league treats him and how he takes it.

Even the video downplayed the preceding incident by saying the two players were tangled up.

I think it’s time for a little load management as per Stauffer. Gaem against NYr at msg, take the night off to rest. Pick another.

I know this is just me being pissy but I'd love to see the Oilers leading in the 3rd against the Canucks and just have all 5 players on the Ice tackle and pin down all 5 of the Canucks players for the last minute of play just to send a message and prevent any hope of scoring.

If McDavid refuses to play for team canada because of this, I say good on him. That mickey mouse tournament isn't worth any more than the all star game. If they want a true best of tournament, Olympics with Russia (love em or hate em, Russia is damn good at hockey and without them it's just not the same) is the only nations tournament worth watching.

Hit them where it hurts their product. What is that garbage tournament worth when the best player isn't in it. A talent like McDavid should be in their best interest to keep happy. The suspension is warranted, no doubt, but the actions of the refs were braindead. You can't have plugs hanging onto superstars preventing them from playing.

It goes way the other way actually, because for all its faults the NFL knows fans to watch its best players on the biggest stage and not irrelevant tools like Garland.

And here Gary is wondering why his league can’t draw the same ratings and therefore TV deal… duh dumb f***, get a hint.
Several years ago, Kris Versteeg was on HNIC playoff broadcasts and said this during the Jets series of no penalties drawn by 97. Now he isn’t on any more.

And Gary is in shock when he sees 35M watching NFL games and 200K watching his league, and can't for the life of him figure out why. Just another nail in the slow bleed coffin of me watching less and less of his corrupt league.

It’s time for the dinosaurs to go. They have not kept up with the evolvement of the game. From Gary denying and refusing any criticism “the game is in a great place”…”we have the best refs on earth”….hell he even denied the games started late. Guy is a moron. Owners love Bettman though- so nothing is changing through the bulk of McDavid’s careeer, sadly

Woke as POS league and commitee. Banning Russia is another example of this goofy league doing things that divide and piss people off too. Bringing politics into hockey and forcing it down peoples throats. The league is full of proud Russian players, why not ban them too ?

not allowing russia to compete in the tournament at the same time have a Ovie goal tracker on the website everyday......hypocrites.

i wouldnt be mad if mcdavid comes out after his 3 games and cross checks the next person who hauls him down with no call, right in the face again.

The Friends and Family Foundation league is as corrupt as it can get in sports.

So McDavid and Knob would get a fine if they talk bad publicly about the NHL or it's refs, but Katz better scream his head off at Bettman. What's the point of building a successful franchise that drives NHL revenue if the refs just make a mockery out of the sport?

Oh Bob had Mact on and Mact said he knows how close Katz and Bettman are and Bettman would be hearing from Katz in a big way.

Game management drives me nuts.

Could you imagine in the last 5 min of a NFL game, the cornerback just demolishes a receiver prior to the ball arriving and the ref's shrugging "hey...this is a tough game, gotta work through that. That receiver is so good, they have to interfere or else we would have to throw a flag on every play. And we don't want to decide the outcome of the game so we let em' play."

Of an Offensive lineman holds the Linebacker every play because he's the "best Linebacker who's ever played. If we didn't allow for holding we would have to throw a flag every play" and during the last 5 minutes "The Linebacker has to fight through those Holding calls. This is a tough sport"

Your job is to see an infraction...and call it. If there's a Basketball foul with a minute left, they don't swallow the whistle and be "just got to let them play through it, it's a tough sport" You don't see them put the whistle away in soccer. "Last 2 minutes means no fouls"

What other sport changes what's a foul/penalty by how much time is left in a game. Or as the playoffs advance...

GRRRRR!

He wouldn't do that to his teammates or the Team Canada jersey.

He should refuse any interview or promo for the event before during and after.
