Eklund Rumor: McDavid for 1st overall and Knies

From one badly managed team to another?
If I'm McDavid I'd probably try to go to some team like the Ducks, Canadiens or Sharks, which seem to start to put the final pieces together.
I'd assume the Hurricanes can create the space as well and will probably have a few more good years.

Probably not possible for him to squeeze himself into a team like the Panthers, Lightning, Vegas, Stars or Avalanche

They'd get a hell of a lot more than that. If Brady Tkachuk just got 3 1sts and a 2nd, then McDavid's bringing in at least 6 1st round picks worth of value. Think Lindros trade.
If he is moved it won't be for as much as Oiler fans want. He'll want to go to a contender not a team that is going to decimate itself and trade away a bunch of roster players for him.

A team will mortgage the future for him, but it unlikely to send more than a single impact roster player back IMO.

While this probably isn’t true anyway, if Edmonton goes to McDavid about being traded they better be sure he isn’t blocking that team because if they ask him to waive for somewhere he doesn’t want too… it’s all over with zero chance he stays.

Lindros was a rookie with 10+ years ahead of him with his new team and was considered the greatest NHL prospect not named Gretzky or Lemieux.

McDavid will be turning 30 earning $12.5M and almost certainly a raise on his next deal - Big part of all this of course is if it would be a sign & trade.

In other words, not anything close to the Lindros deal but much more like Quinn Hughes deal return with a better roster player than Rossi and/or prospect than Buium.
