Has a player of his calibre ever bailed on his team ? Him signing here would be a dream but I don't think a FA signing of that level has ever happened in the NHL
Happens in other sports all the time.

He's gonna break the hockey trend

We didn't have Gilmore. I think it was Roberts/newendkye...Sundin era.

No. This was at the conclusion of the 1995-96 season when Gretzky had been traded to St. Louis. That was the end of the line for the Cliff Fletcher era Leafs. Team had to unload a number of veterans over the next 12 months, partially to fund the new arena/Raptors merger. The Leafs hadn’t gone full corporate and modernized at this point.

"His calibre" makes it a very small group, of maybe a dozen players in 100 years. How many were even in that position?

If you look at just first overall picks in their late 20s, how about John Tavares?

ROR has always been a mercenary so it would be surprising if he didn’t try to get every dollar, either here or somewhere else.

Lebrun did say that it seemed like the Leafs / Toronto were always going to chat this summer, ROR had interest in coming "home" so maybe he places some value on that?

I think a 2 year deal in the ballpark of 3.75-4.25M is gonna make sense.

That could very well be the case, hope so.

I’ll be shocked if he takes less than 5

ROR peaked in his first year in St.Louis. Has to be a team friendly deal or let him walk.

McDavid signs here, and Oil fans will be even more bitter than Islanders fans over Tavares.

Similar to how you could kinda picture Stamkos or Tavares coming "home" - McDavid definitely is in that mold...his face didn't hide the disappointment at the draft lottery, you could tell he wanted to land here.

Even if it's not immediately after the current contract, you just know at some point he's gonna want to wear the blue and white before he hangs them up.
He's leaving edmonton. The best thing that could ever happen was this cute little win streak they're on. Everyone has them winning the cup lol. After last year and what's coming to them in a few weeks he's going to want out. He's going to know he can't get over that hump there. He's going to know he not only has to make drai a fifty goal guy, he literally has to score 60 plus for them to have a chance. He's as good as gone..

I feel like Vancouver has the legitimate little brother complex

Is there a such thing as a third cousin complex for Edmonton? lol
Ask someone from there. They know all about their 3rd cousins there. . . And their 2nd cousins, brothers, sisters etc.
