It's fun. It's fun to play in Toronto. You know, obviously I'm a little bit biased. I'm a Toronto kid. But I strongly consider Toronto to be kind of the Mecca of hockey. I really do. Just with all the media and the fans and, obviously, the history of the Leafs."

Having said that, who does Connor McDavid like watching on TV when he's not practicing or playing with the Oilers?

"I like watching players obviously more than teams. So I like watching Pittsburgh for obvious reasons. And I'm probably going to get in trouble for saying this (chuckles) but I like watching the Leafs just with all the talent they have. Those are probably my top two."

Similar to how you could kinda picture Stamkos or Tavares coming "home" - McDavid definitely is in that mold...his face didn't hide the disappointment at the draft lottery, you could tell he wanted to land here.

Even if it's not immediately after the current contract, you just know at some point he's gonna want to wear the blue and white before he hangs them up.

When you grow up in the Toronto area, I feel the NHL presence is very strong. Obviously with the Leafs being there, anyone who plays on the Leafs were kind of heroes and are to a lot of kids there to this day. But also, there are so many different NHL players on different NHL teams that go back to Toronto in the summer. So I remember being 10, 11, 12 years old and being out there with NHL guys. So I definitely had plenty of those kind of experiences around those types of guys. And I think it helps a lot. I think it really does. And just seeing how 'Cujo' kind of handled himself while he was at the rink, you know, watching his son play, how he handled fans, but also how he was able to kind of cut out some time for himself as well. And he was always so pleasant to people, and it definitely gives you a perspective on kind of how to handle fans and how to kind of deal with that.

He was talking A LOT about Toronto in this interview lol

I was thinking second line 🤔. He might be able to work well with Nylander.
Come on you can’t have him push our captain out of his lineup spot after he signs his cheap retirement contract with us.
But it’s okay I think McDavid will make a great 3rd line centre for us.

Now I don’t really think that I just wanted to make any Oilers fans who read it to rage while they do. Cause you know a bunch of them read our board constantly. Rent free lol

Just figured JT would be ready for winger/3rd line duty in a couple years.

Just another reason to hope for an early Oilers playoff exit.

I really hate to see McDavid so frustrated, I do, especially after such kind words about the Leafs but the ends will justify the means if he ends up signing in Toronto.

Slide Tavares’s money over to McDavid once Johnny’s contract is up. McDavid-Matthews-Marner would destroy line-ups every damn time on the ice. Ohhhh myyyy would that be amazing to watch.

Completely unrelated, but while I do present the idea that the Tavares signing was one of the worst signings in the history of the franchise (team was not ready, advanced the idea behind competing early than needed, could have used cap space for defensive depth/high level winger to complement the team top 3 and could have easily ran with Kadri as 2C etc) it unironically may be a blessing because it showed that players can theoretically go back to their home towns with not as much back lash as people were expecting minus the fan base of the team they are leaving. It is just doing a disservice intellectually to think he was not sad about going to the Oilers on the draft night; sorry, the eyes do not lie. I don't think it's an absolute guarantee that he signs here. Hell, I would still bet against it. But there is definitely a chance it happens.

The pandemic was the reason for the Leafs downfall, not the Tavares contract.

the cap froze by what, 10M+? That would have accounted to re-signing Hyman and adding another top 4 defender from free agency.
