Cup or ppl will disparage it.
3 games ago that was maybe true. Definitely not anymore - this will hold up all-time, cup or not.
3 games ago, Panthers were up 2-0 in the series, and 4-1 in the 3rd about to take an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the series. McDavid had 1 point so far in the finals, and people were already saying he was 'choking'.
He scored 2 important points in that 3rd period to make the score 4-3, and Oilers came close to a comeback, but still lost that game.
4 points in an 8-1 game 4 win
4 points in a 5-3 game 5 win
No - there's no way people will disparge this McDavid run anymore, win or lose.
Is this guy gonna win the Conn Smythe even if the Oilers lose?
There was no way he was winning in a 4 game sweep, and I thought even a 5 games loss wasn't enough a few days ago.
At this point - yes. Pushing this to game 6 - regardless of if it goes 6 or 7, I think at this point McDavid will win. Simply too much domination - both overall in the playoffs, but also in the finals specifically.
Impressive run, McDavid has now stepped up on biggest stage in playoffs during these finals. He'll deserve all the love he gets now, all that's left is that ultimate prize. It's within reach now.....
- If Oilers win = It's McD's to lose.
- But if Oilers lose = Player on winning team should win.
- Kudos McDavid, our house is puling for Oilers to pull-off 0-3 shocker.
I think if you started a poll here asking people "do you think a player on the losing team should ever be eligible for winning a conn smythe?" 90%+ of voters would say no. I think most people agree it should be reserved for winning team.
But - as the rules currently are, it is possible for a player on the losing team to win the conn smythe. And because of how dominating McDavid's performance has been - he now has it locked up. He will definitely win the smythe, cup or not.
