I thought this was pretty much a norm now. Has been for the Pens at least. A good amount of players have already been back in town practicing together for the last week and typically it seems like anyone with a chance of making the roster is there several weeks early.

I know for Ottawa all the players are currently there and some of them have been practicing for a few weeks already (other than Pinto who's still unsigned).

Most of the guys arrived Monday or Tuesday this week (Tkachuk, Batherson, Stutzle, Sanderson, Kubalik, Kelly, Hamonic, Joseph, Chychrun, Korpisalo, Kastelic, JBD, Brannstrom, MacEwen).

The guys that have been there for a few weeks already are Chabot, Giroux, Tarasenko, Sokolov, Forsberg, Norris, Zub.

Obviously that was something discussed amongst the players but I don't know if anyone demanded it. In interviews over the summer the players kept talking about how excited they are to get things going this season so I imagine it's just excitement and good team culture.

Someone wrote a story about it.... that's all. You could write this story about 20+ other guys around the league, but McDavid is the best player in the world so it was written about him.
