Explain how he initiated this

McDavid and Garland tussle with both ending up on the ground.

McDavid keeps Garland pinned to the ground, sneaky but not so sneaky play.

Garland returns in kind keeping McDavid down and out of play in dying seconds. Blatantly obvious play.

McDavid gets annoyed and gives Garland a shot to the head.

Garland gets up and tackles McDavid.

McDavid mad, cross checks Garland in the face.

In summation- McDavid initiates, Garland retaliates. McDavid escalates. Cycle repeats.

No from the moment McDavid and Garland come together, Garland Grabs McDavid's arm and holds him there's no denying this other than a severe delusion of bias. Garland himself even admitted to it post game.

Who cares? It's hockey and a hockey play. McDavid was tackled and held on the ice. He is quite right to take matters into his own hands to protect himself and his ability to play. Star players have been targets in hockey since the first ape fell out of a tree with a stick. I coach McDavid and I tell him to protect yourself at all coats. I tell his team mates that 97 is your meal ticket.
A hockey play? What was a hockey play? Cross checking to the head? I guess you could call it a hockey play since they have a penalty in the rulebook for it….but seriously?

Also, I see here and several times earlier about the need for McDavid to protect himself. Protect himself from what? A holding penalty?

They both “ended up on the ground” because Garland hauled him down to the ground
Hence initiating the tussle

Because Garland should be allowed to act like a rat and have the refs and DOP(e)S save him, duh! Makes total sense.

HE needed to send a message that seems to be lost on most of you. Garland was being a masssive POS by clutching, holding and handing on to him and McDavid had every right to do what he did since clearly the refs were not willing to do it

Garland blatantly admits to holding for the sole purpose of taking McDavid out of play.

And still, Canucks fans are so bias that they are pretending otherwise. Same delusion from last season.

Reactions: Three On Zero
Garland triggered McDavid into doing something braindead stupid, which hurt himself and his team. They lost the game, and he gets suspended. Garland also triggered Oiler fans into thinking that a hold is worthy of a blatant, dirty, illegal and suspendable headshot. So mad, they can't think straight, and blame everyone except for the person responsible for keeping their own emotions in check.

Some people go as far as to actually think his little hissy fit will be a future deterrent? No, it just proves you can take McDavid off his game and make him do something stupid. Hope they nail that headshotting douche

Remember when Crosby stepped out of his lane and tried to play that role? How did that work out for him?

McDavid needs to play his game. If he starts cheap shotting players he will get a taste of his own medicine and no one will care when he cries about it.

If McDavid is so soft he needs to crosscheck players in the face over some holding and roughing like last game . I guarantee it will come back to haunt him. It really is not a good look on him and he needs to toughen up a bit.

No, I don’t think the answer is to toughen up and take more abuse quietly. I think you respond with unpredictable escalators force as a deterrent. Kinda like Mark Messier used to talk about. That seems fine to me. Penalties, suspensions, all possible. But make it known to others there’s a price to pay to get near you. I don’t mind that. That’s hockey.

What’s the alternative, get punched in the head repeatedly a la Sedin and take no action?

I’d be mad too if I was the best player in the world and I couldn’t fight through some clutch and grab from 5’3” 108lb Connor Garland. Dude has a legacy to think of.
