McDavid deserves a suspension but officials are letting things get out of hand by not calling penalties with consistency. It does feel like refs more go if it's 97 on the receiving end

The whole point is officiating is unreliable anyway. A player like Connor McDavid has no assurances he will be protected in game by the officiating, and as a target of team strategy, he's going to eat a lot of abuse night after night. We've seen so many superstars ruined in this game by those dynamics.

So if it's rules of the jungle, it's better for a targeted superstar to keep opponents around him honest by being dangerous to be around. Buys you space and safety.

mcdavid is probably the most protected player in the league, which is why he does shit like this because he's been able to get away with it. he constantly starts stuff and then hides behind the refs because it's a bad look if the best player in the league gets dummied in a scrum. it's actually pathetic to see. you don't even need to look far to find other dirty stuff he does, just look at his recent elbow on noted goon marcus johansson.

and yeah, all 5'7 of conor garland is totally gonna "hurt" mcdavid.

The decent, and not so decent, players gets less attention and marking than the stars of the game, but the equal amount of slashes, holds, grand and other infractions?

Does the coaches say - ”Double down on their star player, but handle him more gentle than everyone else”?

If you can’t outmuscle a 5’ 7” human… that’s concerning. McDavid knew what he was doing by staying on top of Garland. Perfectly negating a defender.

See some complaints about referees here, and I disagree.

Looking at replay, it looks like McDavid is running a pick on Garland. Not 100% sure who pulls the other player down once there is contact. It actually could've been McDavid, he seems to be leaning in. I figure wasn't easy for the refs to decide who to call there, so hard to complain. Once on the ground, Garland is holding McDavid, but this "wrassling" happens all the time when the two players are tangled on the ice, and I never see this kind of thing getting a call. And McDavid getting a 5 minute major after the crosscheck is also pretty normal.
