Mcdavid 5min Match Penalty: Cross check to the face of Garland (Will have a hearing tomorrow afternoon, 1/20)

They do care though. Look at how much attention the Oilers get on the mains compared to other teams. Funny how this is allowed to stay open but the Myers thread locked.
i just opened a new thread with a link to the news of the hearing, which was enough to reopen this thread funnily enough. Lets see how long it stays open for.

No horse in this race, but I don't look at vicious superstar retaliation all that negatively.

All well and good for every Conor Garland to play tough guy and give the opposition star player the business, but if things are devolving to the laws of the jungle, it's part of self protection that someone like McDavid will pull the snap show card and keep people honest around him.

Not exactly evolved thinking, but turning the other cheek is a way worse option.
The refs were the issue here, you call the double minor at the very least and send them both off.

Yeah, it's all one massive conspiracy. Everyone from Gary Bettman, to the DoPS, to the refs, to the mods and posters on HFBoards are all against the Oilers and their fans simply because it's the Oilers and their fans.

We have a group chat with all of us except you guys.

Perusing X… it’s telling when every single former NHLer is on the same side of the argument.
Rupp, Pronger etc.

only HF posterds seems to think otherwise...

wonder why

I don’t think pointing out the inconsistencies on this board is the same as the tinfoil hat brush that you’re trying to paint us with.

Either way the Oilers are a polarizing franchise that many people talk about. Nobody cares about the Minnesota Wild, I forget they even exist until the Oilers play them.

Although Minnesota did give the world Prince so I’ll give them that.

I enjoy watching McDavid lose. I enjoy watching him get roughed up. I enjoy watching him lose his cool. Biggest POS in the league since Torres retired.

McDavid not getting everything handed to him on a platter is can't miss TV.

yup, i even messaged the mods with a link to the myers hearing so the thread could be reopen with new information, the same justification that this thread was opened under, but radio silence, no updated title or anything. fair is fair right?

The bias is wild.

p.s our posts will just get deleted.
You mean the thread that is currently open?

It’s a shame there is not a mechanism in place to penalize players who harm others so such Wild West behavior wasn’t needed. Almost as if the NHL needs someone (or multiple someones) to act in the role of a, let’s say, “referee”.

Ah, but never mind me, that’s pure insanity.

I was going to retort…but then I saw you’re a Kings fan. No wonder you’re so salty.

If it’s any consolation the Oilers could beat the Kings in the first round for the next decade and it still wouldn’t make up for Gretzky, so Kings fans have that.

I'm sure the situation could have been policed better in general, it's the NHL and NHL refs are pretty good at pouring gasoline on a tire fire.

But generally, if a star player is disproportionate in his retaliation against someone going after him, I don't mind it.

NO roughing or holding call against POS Garland?

Or interference/punching Garland’s head penalty on McDavid.

You can retaliate, but cross checking someone in the head? That’s just scummy. Go for the typical mid section cross check we usually see.

The whole point is officiating is unreliable anyway. A player like Connor McDavid has no assurances he will be protected in game by the officiating, and as a target of team strategy, he's going to eat a lot of abuse night after night. We've seen so many superstars ruined in this game by those dynamics.

So if it's rules of the jungle, it's better for a targeted superstar to keep opponents around him honest by being dangerous to be around. Buys you space and safety.

As he shouldn’t be protected, hes no different than any of the other players on the ice. All players deserve equal treatment.

If the DoPS cares, McDavid would of missed this game anyway.

This happens time and time again. You have to be proactive and preventative to actually make changes. If you actually represent protecting players from illegal hits, you have to punish it and not say it's okay, and instead again, the player pushes it to the next level because you didn't.
