NHL couldn't ignore the Garland incident, after ignoring the elbowing on Johansson by McDavid that has Johansson out with a concussion. Intentional hitting to the head is not cool, i don't care who you are, and let's face it, Garland and Marcus Johansson aren't exactly a murderer's row of vicious physicality.

Seems more like the superstar had a hissy fit and took it out on easy targets he knew wouldn't fight back.

...McJesus needed a few days off...
Ahhh...right then. He, in his own way, put his time-off request in and it was apparently granted by those who issue time off requests.

Bravo...splendid. I am sure everyone involved is rejoiced that can get some rest. I can't be bothered to read the litany of celebratory congratulations being bestowed upon him.

I say as everyone has surely said, rest well Connor!

(Thank you for the succinct summation, I was afraid the issue was causing some conflict) ( Thank goodness that is apparently not the case)

Honestly, smart play by Garland to just grab onto McDavid for the last 15 seconds.

either

a) McDavid snaps and takes them off the powerplay, also taking him off the ice entirely
b) McDavid is out of the play and their 6 on 5 advantage is now 5 on 4
c) Garland gets a penalty but there's not enough time for it to matter, and if the Canucks can win the draw the game is essentially over
This is true. Not sure why to be mad at Garland, what he did was actually smart.

I’m upset at NHL officiating and the DoPS. McDavid deserved a suspension. I can even see the 3 gamer. It’s the inconsistency of the DoPS and the number of non-calls that makes this entire situation a joke.

Feels like a game too much for mcdavid. Don’t condone what he did but if the refs did their job it doesn’t escalate as much as it does. They failed to take control.

I won't disagree. Penalties are not always called.

A lot of people are pointing at the Bouchard non whistle.

Superstars get slowed down and the league seems to be whatever about it.

Before McDavid and co it was Crosby and co.

You ever watch Mario Lemieux playoff games? Was nuts.

...punishing horrendous officiating should have started happening years ago... :thumbu:

...go back even further...Maurice Richard would literally have players on his back and not get a call...

I recall guys hanging on Mario… that’s why he always had a bad back. At least back then there were enforcers and no instigator that could send a message.

The NHL has no idea how to showcase this game. They want to take away all the aggressiveness while at the same time not allowing talent to play talented hockey. What is there to watch then? Official managed close games so they can say it’s a parity league? The NHL has stunted the growth of hockey in comparison to other major sports.

I really feel that the entire NHL fanbase would unite in some satisfaction if they announced that Lee and the other egomaniac will both be suspended 3 games without pay for their part in this. Too many obvious calls were missed in the third period… both sides.

Oilers fans and their conspiracy theories about Bettman and Edmonton...:laugh:
Do you remember the 2 handed full throttle tomahawk chop by Pietrangelo getting 1 game and Nurse getting 1 game for fighting a guy that was asking him to go all night. Nurses suspension was the only one given that year for the exact same infraction others did that year without suspension. It isn't Edmonton it is Canada.

This league is a joke...if it were the NBA or the NFL it would never hit that far.
Imagine that would happen to LeBron or Mahomes...never ever would this happen...LeBron can run with the ball under his arm across the court and would never get a travel call and if you are closer than one yard to Mahomes you will get a roughing the passer penalty...and if you someone holds you for 10 seconds (and admit it afterwards that he was penalting McD) and then you respond (it's not a good looking respond to be fair but it's a understandable respond).

You can bash all you want on the Oilers but if McD would play for your team you would go for a riot after all this s***.

according to DPOS math, a second round playoff game = three rs games

The issues with the referee has been ongoing for decades and the NHL maintain its status quo for years on so called game management in their rule book. It is the league's fault, not the referee because they do not encourage every referee to call any penalty if they are leading, trailing, or tied, time remaining. McDavid laying on the top should have called for interference and Canucks PP would have been rewarded.

They refused to call it because it would have impact the end result. Cross-checking would not have happened. Just little things where things can go out of control if the ref doesn't step in. They could have easily called both to the box with 15 seconds to go and Edmonton would be on PP without McDavid and fans would still cry about it.

What choice do the ref have? Letting them play is what the league wanted in the first place. In my opinion, the rulebook needs overhauling with more clarification on what is penalty and what is not a penalty and be consistent to it no matter the score or the time left in the game. Now they are blaming the referee or the league now for causing the suspension in the first place which is comical by itself. They didn't even raise their voice all of those years except that the ref is worst without realizing that game management is the main issue and it is in the rule book.

Honestly, Pens fan, watching the play for the first time -- what a garage league. Garland literally holds Mcdavid so he has to do something about it. Same shit Mario had to deal with. Should have been nothing. Don't cheat.

"Doing something about it" in hockey generally means you fight. Not cross check a guy in the head and risk serious injury. But obviously McCrybaby isn't gonna drop the gloves.
