Really? It is a pretty blatant penalty. It isn't suspension worthy like some of his other high sticks, but it certainly is worth a minor.

That is a 2 minute penalty for embellishment.

Soucy cross checked McDavid in the head without intent and without knowing that Zadorov was going to cross check him.

These are not similar incidents.

What if they made some sort of kangaroo pouch that Garland could sit in that was attached to Myers? All sorts of new fun nickname options would emerge.

Cross checks to side of the heads don't even get called in playoffs...see Weber on plenty of Oilers.
Garland had a right to swing his stick back at McDavid if refs ignored McDavids crosscheck. Refs not doing their job made McDavid take matters in his own hands.
He will be fine with a suspension.

I mean... on the literal same play Pettersson is held and pinned 100 ft away from the play by Bouchard and it wasn't called. Then Garland does the same thing.

Also crazy that you think cross checks to the side of the head is an ok play because you can cite it not being called in the playoffs (a time of year that the entire game is called differently). That's an absurd standard to use for a mid January regular season game or to justify a cross-check to the head just cause you are a fan of the guy.

If the refs did their job Bouchard is in the box for holding/interference before Edmonton even gets into the zone on that shift, so you're right, McDavid wouldn't have had a tantrum if the refs did their job.

Actually this should be McDavids 5th or 6th suspension had he been judged as any other player and not gotten away with the "star player" out of jail card!

This crosscheck should be 2-3 games for a player with zero history, McDavid has a previous suspension, so make it 4, that would reasonable! If he were considered a repeat offender per se it would be 5 or 6.

I just watched the whole live sequence and its actually worse for McDavid than just the short clip! McDavid is the one doing a sucker punch followed up by a dangerous crosscheck which both are worse than Garlands holding.

Connor should already have been suspended at least 3-5 times before so Edmonton fans should consider themselves lucky thus far that he has received the "free out of jail" treatment from the league time after time!

Matthews got 2 games for a cross check to dahlias head, pretty much the same thing here. Add in the fact his name is mcdavid, the crosscheck was on a short player garland, and garland held him for 30 secs, the DoPS will give mcdavid 1 game instead.

Well since the blind refs allowed him to get away with it he did a great job.

DoPS is putting themselves in a situation where they cant punish McD for 1-2 games, so its max fine.

Fourth suspension puts him in the repeat offender status. Its hard to justify giving Rempe or Wilson 20+ games next time and McDavid one game, neutral arbitrator will question the whole concept of repeat offender if they dont treat them the same.

That being said, it should be 1-2 games.

Not sure what McDavid was doing. He's McDavid. It feels like he thought a stationary Garland might get around him (maybe?) to get the chipped puck, but he threw an arm/elbow at Garlands head and sort of dives into Garland who does the standard tie-up, sort of holds McDavid's arm. McDavid takes a swing at the back of Garland's head, McDavid is getting up and held by Garland and trips over, both get up and McDavid straight-up two-hands Garland in the face.

I didn't get to watch the whole game but this is pretty pathetic and away from the play. You lost the puck McDavid. Your team has it. What are you doing?

McDavid dove into Garland with what looked like a flying elbow after losing the puck. I'm not even sure how this is questionable. McDavid lost the puck to Garland and dove into him.

Ya that's not how this works. Garland had totally disengaged from McDavid and was backing away and McDavid came head-hunting.

Myers should probably get a game but he is literally standing still and Bouchard is coming up to him for no reason (head hunting as well?).

It's who instigates.

Refs don’t make the call on 3 penalties Garland commits on McDavid in the lead up to that.

Call the penalty there and all that gets avoided at the end.

The Myers cross check was pretty bad there as well.

McDavid punched Garland in the head on the ice after sitting on him. Sure Garland pinned his stick down but that’s typical jostling at the end of the game. At any rate it’s no justification to cross check him in the teeth.

I’m sure you have a justification for his chicken wing the game before too.
