With his third assist tonight and his 6th since his return from injury in just under 6 periods of play, McDavid has moved into sole possession of third place for most 70+ assist seasons in NHL history ranking behind only…

You guessed it…

Gretzky (16x) and Lemieux (8x) yet again.

And as always, just for fun, that’s 5 more times than Crosby.

Continues his journey on remolding the Big Four into a new Big Five.

28 year old mcdavid 6th in scoring? Hmm doesnt seem so big 4 to me. Crosby was 3rd in scoring at 28. He is falling well behind lemieux n gretzky

Guess you didn’t get the memo that McDavid has been battling injuries and will play a maximum of 68 games this season. He’s currently played 10-15 games less than everyone ahead of him, other than Draisaitl, who has played 6 games more.

Assist #4 tonight pulls him into a tie for 5th in raw points and he’s 2nd in PPG. While injured. While missing 14 games. While clearly not himself. And not for reasons like having the mumps or whatever lame excuses there to explain why other players couldn’t dominate.

Crosby played 80 games at age 28 and got scorched by Kane…and finished behind Jaime Benn for the second year in a row. Don’t even start that comparison.

By the way, if he gets 4 points in the final 3 games, it will be his 8th 100 point season, which will once again trail only Gretzky and Lemieux.

Meanwhile, you’re hoping Crosby gets another point so you can celebrate him hitting 90 points three seasons in a row for the first time in his career.

How lucky are we to be able to move from the ridiculously good last generation of players to the even more ridiculously good current one?

Lol mcdavid coming back in garbage time with some points. He was getting obliterated by all of drai kuch n mack when he got injured. 68 gp at 28 is more than enough to win the art ross if he was at mario or waynes level. Lemieux won by 12 points missing 24 games for example. Cant wait to see if a 34-37 year old mcdavid is still pulling off 90 point seasons.

See, this is where you always seem to get confused. I firmly believe Gretzky and Lemieux are better than McDavid. I’ve always said this.

But we’re witnessing a player marching on a very clear path to where he’s locked into no lower than #5 all-time, until another phenom comes along in 40-50 years, and will do enough that allows a serious case for him to be argued as higher than anyone other than Gretzky, if they value both peak and longevity.

It’s absolutely obnoxious that he’s tracking to finish second to only Gretzky in trophies, assists, points, accolades, and a dozen other things, and you can’t wrap your head around why a significant crowd will rank him as high as #2 by the time he hangs up his skates.

The fact you’re losing it over Crosby collecting a third 90 point season in a row for the first time in his career, in literal garbage time called missing the playoffs three years in a row, says it all.

He is not tracking to finish second behind gretzky in hardware. If you havent noticed this will be the second straight year he is going to be shut out of the hart, ross, lindsay. Lemieux has 2 more richards, 1 more art ross, 1 more smythe. Howe has 3 more harts, 1 more art ross. 4 more richards. Mcdavid has now fallen victim 4 times in his prime to other players while playing more than enough games if he was on that level.

When it comes to crosby the difference in their hardware is crosbys injuries. Plain and simple. That is very easy to see. I am talking about crosbys third straight 90 point season when I compare him to ovechkin.

Crosby played 68 games or 22 in 2012?
I mean Kuch n Mack have about 15 more empty net points each, and if you remove that McDavid and Drai are leading in PPG by quite a bit. McDavid will be considered a level below Gretzky and Lemieux so knocking him down for not winning Art Rosses every year like they did is kinda unfair.

Don’t worry there is nothing McDavid can do in the regular season that will convince fans that he’s better than Crosby. He has to win the cup for people to get that.

He isn't even close to being on Crosby's level. Sorry but he is an individual, regular season phenom- not a winner. He's beneath Crosby and many others.

You thinking that McDavid has to win every Hart, Lindsay, and Art Ross from seasons 2-10, while ignoring what he has won, his year in and year out top 2 finishes otherwise, and what he has accomplished is so twisted, and actually shows that you know he is among the five greatest players to ever lace them up and better than Crosby.

Well, that and you saying so less than 10 months ago.

Can’t really scrub away that post from last postseason you deleted about how McDavid is the fifth best player ever and better than Crosby ever was.

Why can’t you just celebrate McDavid’s achievements without always getting in a jab about Crosby

This has been covered. You’re not approaching this honestly when you knock a guy who won a Conn Smythe while losing in 7 games in the SCF, breaking Gretzky’s assist record and putting up the 3rd highest total in postseason history, while ignoring that Crosby scored a grand total of 2 goals across the Penguins 3 Cup wins.

I Dont think mcdavid has to win the art ross and hart every season. After the 22-23 season i remember you saying it was near impossible that he wouldnt continue sweeping. I had said crosby also dominated the league from 23-26 n then finished third in scoring at 27 and 28 a fact that you liked to use against him. Then what happened? Mcdavid finished third last year n now this year again outperformed by a couple players.

Crosby and mcdavid are comparable players. Difference is injuries and scoring eras they played their primes in. Top 2 finishes? Crosby has finished top 2 in hart voting 6x yet you talk about him like a scrub sometimes lol
