McDavid’s 7th 70+ assist season—3rd most in NHL history

Unfair as it may be, reality is McDavid will never be considered among the best to ever play unless he wins a SC.

I mean Kuch n Mack have about 15 more empty net points each, and if you remove that McDavid and Drai are leading in PPG by quite a bit. McDavid will be considered a level below Gretzky and Lemieux so knocking him down for not winning Art Rosses every year like they did is kinda unfair.

Don’t worry there is nothing McDavid can do in the regular season that will convince fans that he’s better than Crosby. He has to win the cup for people to get that.
Only time i bring up mcdavid losing rosses in his prime is in direct comparison to 66 n 99. Besides that finishing third for example last season is nothing to scoff at

This is a discussion board. What do you want people not to discuss?
Discussion is one thing. But, what these turn into is people taking shots at rival players and fanbases, with very bad reaches, thinking they’re getting one over on that rival player and fanbase, and not realizing those reaches make them look completely foolish and clueless to everyone else who isn’t so emotionally invested.

Lol mcdavid coming back in garbage time with some points. He was getting obliterated by all of drai kuch n mack when he got injured. 68 gp at 28 is more than enough to win the art ross if he was at mario or waynes level. Lemieux won by 12 points missing 24 games for example. Cant wait to see if a 34-37 year old mcdavid is still pulling off 90 point seasons.
You cant make this stuff up ^^^

Another classic from Nathaniel🤣

Most people are in on the joke, particularly Nathaniel and I.

Yeah exactly, realistically any discussion about 2 generational players should just be comparing their greatness, not pretending like one of them is trash compared to the other. Crosby is my favourite player and it’s sad to see that so many fans of the current best player in the league (McDavid) are haters of Crosby. But whatever… if Video Nasty says it’s all fun and games I’ll take his word for it, but I’m sure tons of people aren’t joking when they say that stuff

McDavid is unequivacally a better hockey savant than Crosby. However until 97 doesnt hoist the cup, you'll unfortunately have homers flooding the board with thier " I gotcha" moments.

McDavids won 5 Art Rosses. I dont think he cares one bit about even trying to win another one until he hoists a cup.

I enjoy my back n forths with Vid nasty. Nobody is personally insulting

I Dont think mcdavid has to win the art ross and hart every season. After the 22-23 season i remember you saying it was near impossible that he wouldnt continue sweeping. I had said crosby also dominated the league from 23-26 n then finished third in scoring at 27 and 28 a fact that you liked to use against him. Then what happened? Mcdavid finished third last year n now this year again outperformed by a couple players.

I agree. I said that assuming good health, which he hasn’t had for two seasons in a row, he should win the Art Ross, which he clearly would have done in 2023-2024 and even this season.

Problem has always been that Crosby finished behind Benn, Tavares, and Kane at these ages, while playing all but 7 games, and then being put to bed forever by McDavid from there on out. Kucherov and MacKinnon are simply better players and there’s no shame in finishing behind them while battling all sorts of upper and lower body injuries, getting rushed back early at points, and missing more games.

those two seasons were dissapointing. I also thought after the 13-14 season he was going to sweep the next couple years didnt happen. .But finishing behind benn two years in a row did irk me when it happened. Kane is a great great player so him beating crosby too that year isnt a huge blemish. As i have no doubt a peak kane would be putting huge numbers up today

Let's see if he also gets his 8th 100 point season. That would make him tied for 3rd all time in that as well.

He is also now on a streak of 9 consecutive seasons with a minimum of 97 points, which should be no surprise that Gretzky is the only other to do that.

Highest minimum points for 9 consecutive seasons:

Gretzky - 149
McDavid - 97
Bossy - 91
Dione - 84
Esposito - 83

McDavid is the only modern name there. Since the salary cap era:

McDavid - 97
Draisaitl - 70
Kucherov - 65
Ovechkin -56
Kane - 55
MacKinnon - 53
Crosby - 47
Malkin - 33

(Key players only, not an exhaustive list)

In fact, the only other 2 players to even get 97 points a season 9 times were Wayne Gretzky & Mario Lemieux. Just some legendary longevity to go along with McDavids' already legendary peak. It is important to recognize that none of this matters though... he will be remembered the same as Joe Thornton if he doesn't win a team trophy that Patrick Maroon won 3 times :sarcasm: There will be a magical forcefeild that prevents people from considering him an "all-time great", that's what I am told at least

I prefer Sid. Best player I’ve seen since watching in the 90’s.
Sids mentality is for me what sets him apart, he is the Rafael Nadal of hockey, never let the wins carry him
away or the loss and negative emotions carry him down, ultimate professional and competitior.
