I agree. His impact against us would be significantly less if we had a solid team. A deep team with solid systems, he would hurt against less. And likely end up helping that type of team more then hurting. But we are a below average NHL team, poorly coached with no systems. It stands out even more here. He would strive in San Jose, Anaheim, Vancouver, Tampa, type team. He would hurt the Edmonton's, Calgary Buffalo's just as much as us. And a team like Boston, Red wings, Blues would never want him, and if they did get him, would not put up with his crap.

When is Buff bad? When with bad defenceman. He's play big minutes with Clitsome, and the last few Stuart and Ellerby. With that kind of dead weight Buff is required to do way more in our end then he ever should.

That was one heck of an entertaining game! Result sucked but I would never tire of watching that type of hockey, with all of its warts.

So what happened in the first 10 minutes of the third period? I thought it might be fatigue, but we seemed to get our energy back for the last 10. Makes me think we decided to see if we were up to holding off the Pens for 20 minutes with a one goal lead. Never a good idea. Is that on the players or the coach? :sarcasm:

actually would like to see Buff with Toby again - pair your highest risk guy with your lowest

that said Toby has been solid with Trouba

**** we need a legit 2nd pairing Dman :(

Don't worry. Buff will be back with Toby at some point once Noel's D-pairing roulette wheel settles on that pair. Seriously, why can't he keep D pairings stable for more than 3-4 games at a time? Trouba has played with 3 partners in this road trip (Enstrom, Stuart and Pardy). Bogo has played with Stuart and Enstrom. Give these guys a bit of stability, please.

Since his injury Kane is clearly emerging as the Jets dominant forward, playing alongside Scheifele and Frolik. His game is so much more effective and well-rounded these days.

Jokinen continues to be up and down. Why does he still get so much time on the PP?

Jokinen's 5v5 play is clearly affected by Thorbs but his PP performance of late has been absolutely brutal. I just see him making poor choices/hesitating all the time

Used heavily in a defensive deployment today (33% O/Dst %), almost positive in pushing the play forward, 22m TOI, on for 3 GF, and 1 GA. Saw the highest competition of all d-men today, 2 shots on net, 1A.

As far as his games go, pretty good.

Someone commented on people ragging on LLW - my comment was simply that they had a "tough" day - they faced some of the highest QoC, but they did have very high OZ starts as well. Possession wise they did well, but unfortunately it didn't show on the scoreboard today - thus my comment that they had a tough outing. No luck.

Fancy stats wise, Scheifele had a very strong game again (his whole line did). Mostly neutral zone or d zone deployment (O/Dst % of only 15%), faced reasonable QoC, and ended up +10% on CF. This line is really doing well - great to see, as it shows based on watching, AND reflecting on it after the fact by looking at stats.

I would also add that Party played a very good game eventhough he didn't have the toughest quality of competition. It's worth pointing how horrible the Jokinen line was.

Olli Jokinen: 39.3% CF
Devin Setogucci: 32.1% CF
Chris Thorburn: 29.2% CF

Anything below 40% is supposed to be horrendously bad. For some perspective the 4th lines of the Oilers and the Sabres have their CF% around mid-high 30s.

Tanner Glass had CF% of 0 and Corsi Rel % of -52.9%

Just can't decide who needs to go worst - NOEL, Buff or the defensive coach.

no doubt, the time isn't right now (BETTER wait until the trade deadline or draft day) but if any of these 3 are around next year we're just spinning our wheels out there. If we have to put up with one more year of Noel-logic, fans are gonna start jumping ship

Welcome! Good first post. I tend to agree with you however I would like to see a complete coaching change before giving up on Buff. However as you mentioned, its not really the right time.

I have decided to cheer on our young guys and hope for the best. This off season will be the most important for the Jets 2.0.

Huddy is responsible for the defensive pairings and their ice-time, right? I think it's time he takes some accountability as Buff should have been benched in tonight's game. Buff was the single reason we lost that game, and don't even try to defend him. He was on for at least 4 goals tonight including one on the PK. Two of his glaring turnovers lead to goals and he is usually good and clearing the zone when he has the puck. It was just a horrible night for him and our coaching staff just didn't seem to care.

I hope Buff is a healthy scratch next game as he also needs to be held accountable.

Tanner's shot metrics were that pathetic only because he didn't have an Olli and Seto to inflate him up to simply awful :)

Scheifele has 15 assists leading all rookies. 22 pts tied for 5th. Only 4 pts back from MacKinnon. Scheifele might be able to make a run for the calder cup???? Trouba not looking too shabby as well. That's exciting!

Well, it's probably much better odds than the Jets making the playoffs. If he really starts to light it up...Calder race worth keeping an eye on.

For me, the remainder of the season revolves a lot around the further progression and development of Scheifele and Trouba, along with Kane, Bogo and Frolik. Kane is showing me a lot more nuance in his game since the KSF line has come together. I want to see if Bogo can really emerge as a leader on D. Some have noted that Trouba has had a few more errors lately, and I agree that he still has some rough edges. However, what I am seeing from him is an emerging aggressiveness, both physically and offensively. He is starting to play more physically and we are seeing more of his offensive prowess as he gets confident.
