Maybe we should give the Habs some credit.

We give them credit for their effort. We also hold our guys accountable for a shit effort. If they gave half a shit at any point during that series, we easily win. Full credit to Montreal for showing up and not quitting, but it's not an excuse for Matthews/Marner embarrassing effort. Nylander/Kerfoot/Gally played against the same team and goalie and produced much better. Not just production, their effort was 100x better.

They do deserve a lot of credit for playing they way they did, defensively. We were pretty much neutralized in the last 3 games. Even the goals that came, came off deflections and were pretty much lucky bounces. Price didn't struggle for any of those!

and both MTL's OT wins were on fluke plays, a blind giveaway, and a defection. ...then game 7 begins with non calls on bulldog tackle plays, and sleazy call on a mild grab... and game over, series over.
If the Leafs put in a decent effort, they win, but, they didnt, and thats on the coach.

In other words goals were hard to come by because it is playoff hockey and the Leafs couldn't rely on the same old, same old looking for time and space to score pretty goals. Almost like Teams up their intensity come the playoffs and take away shooting lanes and make you earn your goals. That is why this Leafs team sucks. You are not scoring in the playoffs like you do in the regular season.

Give them credit? Hell no. Matthews and Marner choked big time. 1 f***ing goal was all we needed from them in games 5, 6 and possibly 7 and they couldn't even f***ing come up with that. Completely unwilling to do what it takes to advance in the playoffs.

its a combo of alot of things, give price and d credit, 5 man unit- they got healthy at the right time; have a syatem- leafs got unhealthy, didnt make right adjustments, PP terrible for months. Fire MM into the sun. Winnipeg sucks, esp w/o MS.

They suck. Wait til they have to play Vegas or Colorado.

The Leafs beat themselves like usual.
Price won the series, the leafs are not built for playoff hockey, have not won a series for almost 2 decades, the most successful team in canada the last number of recent years are the habs, they were near the top of the regular season standings for a while, but playoffs matter the most.

Why is it so difficult to give them credit, they 100% deserve it. The Habs were directly responsible for the Leafs choking (i.e. 100% prevented the Leafs from winning).

Anything outside of that is just an excuse.

did they choke, or did our coach choke them?
Imagine if Galy was on LW instead of Hyman (heck, or even Spezza, anyone with scoring touch)... in Game 7 Hyman had 3-4 WIDE open looks and flubbed every one, if Galy buries one of those, maybe we win game 7, OR, of he had Galy on their wing from that start, and Montreal couldnt double team Matthews the entire series, we win in 5!!

They play hard and don't short their fans on effort but at the end of the day they're a crap team that's going to get completely run out of the rink against Colorado or Vegas.

It's completely inexcusable that the Leafs lost to them.

The other problem with the Leafs is they let the other team set the tone of the game, rather than setting the tone!
the Leafs could play at a Col/Vegas pace, as they elevate to match the other teams, but, when the other teams slow it down, so do they, and they suck more in that style.
The Leafs need to pick a style, and impose that style on the teams they play!

There is no credit to be given to Montreal. Toronto simply beat themselves. Montreal has no business being where they are. It also doesnt hurt that Montreal didnt have to face arguably both Toronto and Montreal's best two-way players at the center position in JT and Schieffle.

If JT was present in the Montreal series the Leafs win that series easily. If Schieffle is in the lineup the past 3 games there is not doubt Montreal would be up by a 3-0 margin.

Sorry as a Leaf fan I cannot and will not ever give credit to a Montreal team that plays the trap system and relies heavily on their lone star Price. Its how teams like New Jersey in the past won cups. Only thing is NJ had a much better balanced team.

Montreal is playing way over their heads and it will become evident in the next round when Colorado or Vegas make it a simple series against a team that has no business being there.

Toronto and Winnipeg are superior teams to Montreal and would have made a series against Colorado or Vegas. Montreal has luck on their side thats the only credit I will give them. Other then that they are a very bad team.

I think you’ll be negatively surprised

it might be frustrating, but we are playing our strengths. Top goalie, big top 4, a lineup full of 2 way players.

if we beat the jets (i think we do tonight), I think we will give a fit to Vegas , especially Col.

I’m not saying we will win, but I think we will definitely compete.

peace

We lost.

Go outside, crack open a bud and cry about it.

I wouldn't give them credit, they're terrible.

As much as I hate the Habs, I can't make excuses for the Leafs and I have to give MTL some credit here. They've won 6 games in a row against playoff teams, even if those aren't the best of playoff teams they're still playoff teams and that's not easy to do.

Played Leafs without the 25th scorer in the league/captain and then without Muzz.
Montreal did not outshoot us once the entire series.
Playing Winnipeg originally missing their 2nd centre and eventually 1 and 2.
Montreal is not that good.
The IIHF showed what happens in a small sample size. A good goalie and a team approach can cause upsets.
I think this is a really good point. Habs have gotten lucky with opposing team injuries or suspensions. Where would they be right now Tavares had played, or if Danault was out of their lineup?

We indeed might not be where we are.

If Tavares is not injured , we probably don’t win.

but for MS, he well deserved to be out.

i hope it’s satisfying for you.

We know injuries can f***ed up a team. It happened to a lot of teams in all sports !

This thread makes me feel sick.

See what happens when a TEAM bands together?

They play HARD and are WINNING.

Their entire playoffs has made the front office of Toronto look like a joke.

Comes back to the top of the organization, always.

I really hope R&B demand change. We aren't winning anything with our salary cap structure and Marner taking up 11 million to produce nothing.

Its too obvious, so it probably won't happen.

I'll wait to give them credit until they face a none North division team.

If they do well and take it to 6 or 7 or god forbid win, than that's proof enough for me.
