Maybe we should give the Habs some credit.

Not just Habs and Leafs. Oilers had de top pp in the league and were outhit by de Jets every night, but somehow McDavid didn't draw a single penalty in de series. I don't think this signals de demise of skill players succeeding in de playoffs but 20-20 hindsight says try to roll skill on every line so de best hackers and tacklers aren't able to concentrate on shutting down your top scorers. I don't think Keefe was able to adapt to the change in what was being called and what wasn't, once de playoffs started.
Oilers had ZERO defenders .. they were never gonna win anything last year .. Holland will buy some defense and some wingers with size and speed this summer

I agree. Despite all the other factors such as injuries and Keefe's questionable decisions, I don't think the Habs would have gotten past us without Price.

And where would the Leafs be without Auston Matthews? You can say that about any teams star players.

That's not really applicable in this case considering Matthews' production in the playoffs.

We were missing Tavares, and then Muzzin, and our top line was MIA. We were still in the position to advance and were shut down by Price when it mattered most.

LOL!!! If you take Matthews from the Leafs the entire game plan changes and changes the entire trajectory of the series. Some of you people just don’t understand hockey. Have a good day.

Anyone that thinks the Habs team is better than any of the teams they beat including the Leafs is living a pipe dream. Toronto, Winnipeg and Vegas are all better teams than the Habs. Their goalie and the ability to have 1 line that shutdown the best offensive players of the season are what got the Habs there. Not their team as a whole.

They had luck go their way many of times since the first game against Toronto. Knocking Tavares out of the series, and then to go onto 2nd round knocking Winnipeg's best player out for the series (thank you Parros, he will get a ring for that one). Its not that hard for a team to win like the Habs are when they are letting in less than a goal average since game 5 against the Leafs.

We arent talking about crap teams they beat!!! Toronto, Winnipeg and Vegas all boasted top offences (top 5). All had great goaltenders going into the playoffs. Vegas arguably has the best D in the league.

They simply have won on the shoulders of Carey Price, and playing a very boring style of hockey to get there. Making the other team make mistakes and counting on Price to bail them out on theirs like he has all playoffs.

You want work ethic, you want team play. Look at what the Islanders are doing and have been doing all season. They deserve to be where they are. Montreal has been nothing but lucky this whole playoff, and it would be a shame to watch a team as such hoist the cup. Who ever comes out of tonights game deserves the cup more so than Montreal does. They are teams, and legitimate Cup contenders.

But I will say it again, good on Montreal fans to have their team still where they are and heading. But enjoy this Cinderella story. Cause this is exactly what it is. I really hope they win it this year because they wont have a hope in hell once the cap starts to move and teams are playing outside of these pandemic parameters.

Not a chance.

In a playoff series, a goaltender has a greater impact on his team's fortunes than a number one centre.

In the regular season, the teams that make the playoffs are the better teams. In the playoffs, the teams that win are the better teams, and the last team standing is the best team.

Everything else are just excuses.

Bergey followed a simple formula which works for playoff hockey .. best tender you can get .. surrounded by big tough mean defenders who only let other teams play on perimeter with 1 guy with a cannon .. and fast forwards who have breakaway speed with some bigger fore checkers .. you can add a Caufield skill to that mix but even he has breakaway speed too as we saw him take McNabb to da woodshed last night .. bottom line it works .. it maybe painful to watch for some of you but it has always worked .. and Bergey has done it inside CAP .. bottom line in a free wheeling possession NHL game under regular season rules it struggles because it will give up 10 penalties a night and Habs will lose .. in fact next season it is likely they don't even make playoffs .. but it works for playoff hockey

Lol and people mocked the shit out of you last offseason for saying how good of a defense Montreal' has.

It's not brimming with puck moving and offensive talent but it serves a purpose and it serves it damn well.

The Canadiens out worked us. Most teams do. That's a big reason we lost.

There is zero tenacity on this core.

It was easy to blame Andersen in the past but Campbell showed us we have bigger problems.
Not to mention the blueline was excellent save for Sandin, and a 1 mistake from Dermott.
This falls on the stars. Tavares didn't play and Nylander was fantastic.

That leaves 16 & 34.

Excellent Summary.

I blame Dubas for the poor construction and overpaid RFAs.

When we lose Rielly or Hyman our team will be weaker as well.

He has 206 points in 214 regular season/playoff games as a Leaf.

The Leafs blew the series, they should be embarrassed, and we need changes.
However, to say Tavares wouldn't of had an impact on the series is a stretch IMO.
Tavares is an impact player and would have made a difference, but it shouldn't have mattered. We had the horses to win if they showed up as needed.

Two things I don't want in my D.

I want a slapshot, and stay at home D.

I don't think there's any problems to having puck moving offensive D. I think they can help a team greatly. But having D who are capable of defending the key areas of ice in the D zone is more important than anything.

Tampa is incredibly lucky in the regard that their 3 best D (Hedman, Mcdonagh, Sergachev) all have great puck-moving ability but are also big and physical and very adept at defending key areas of ice.

Some Leafs fans completely lose the plot when they talk about Sandin and Liljegren somehow stepping in and being solutions to the Leafs' D.

Absolutely. This is why Marner has to be moved.
I'd like to see what it would cost to acquire Konecny & Sanheim from Philly. Marner +?

100% for sure.
The difference in when the series went to 3-1 the Leafs wanted to be rewarded without working for it.
The Habs worked for it, and got rewarded.

It's the most embarrassing moment for the franchise in history.

Honestly, it's more than that. They just choked.

They had Games 5 and 6 in OT, but they lost composure and simply failed to get it done. The Habs didn't force either of those goals or opportunities, we handed it to them with illogical decisions. I still can't figure out how Dermott coughed up Game 6 so bad. Even with his screw up he had time

We were outworked and their plan worked perfectly against us.

Our high AAV forward star based team is a failure. Dubas must go.

We had 3 great forwards and adding Tavares was a bad plan.

Yep but that's hockey .. even if Habs win Cup I doubt they even make playoffs next year .. Tampa Florida Boston are all better regular season teams .. and I still think 5 teams will come out of Metro (I don't think Pitt is done yet) .. but Habs and Leafs, assuming uninjured, will both be in da fight for 2nd wildcard .. and Leafs will do much better at start of season and people will think they are in great shape at XMAS .. and then things will tighten up again and we will fall off again .. then mgmt will get cleaned out and a hockey guy with Leafs history will come into play as prez/gm .. Dubie is a decent kid but he is in way way over his head .. but now with 4 forwards at half CAP he is finished .. if he had 2 centers, 1 defender and 1 tender maybe he would stand a chance but with 2 wingers it is impossible to fix

Yet many want to keep Dubas, Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, etc. etc. etc.

As an outsider wanting to see the leafs improve something big has to happen. Underachievers and just not a likeable team.
I agree but what would you do
