Maybe Torts Wasn't the Problem

Every team in the league has good periods. Every team also struggles with inconsistency. What you're drscribing can be said about every team in the league.

The more talent you have, the less incosistent you look.

That's not true at all. Please don't use that as an excuse for this years playoffs for this specific team. They had no focus, they played sloppy, they looked like they wanted no part of playing in the game. That lack of focus, lack of desire, can be attributed to poor coaching.

No. The style was starting to get stale last season. Every game in the post season bar 2 or 3 we only scored 2 goals. That's not enough to win every game. The team loses so much time and energy dumping and chasing off the boards and all collapsing in front. Hank was the #1 reason why the Rangers were #1 in the conference.

Agreed but it obviously takes more than Henrik Lundqvist to go out and win a 1 seed considering he's only done it once in his entire career...

He had a small amount more support last year in goals. The defense was godly last season as well. So many shots blocked and lanes clogged, couple that with Hank's best year.

This team needed more than what Torts could give them.

No. The Bruins have effort in EVERY game. The Rangers played lethargically in half of the games. What you described is contradictory of what the team we lost to did. The only game in that series the Rangers decided to wake up for nearly 60 minutes was the first one, and even then they looked lackluster. Same with game 4. Game 5, they didn't have it.

That's because the Bruins are hot right now. They were certainly inconsistent against the Leafs. Barely won the series.

The team, with 1 Stanley Cup winner on the roster - who was a scratch -, needed the coach to motivate them in the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs? Maybe thats part of the issue too.

Sure. But focusing your players as a collective is on the coach. Play any type of organized sports, if the team is not focused it's almost 100% the coach's fault. Give part of the blame to Sather too for having such a roster upheaval. Last year the players played for each other and were naturally motivated. This year Torts needed to have taken on a more proactive role in energizing them and keeping them focused. He didn't. Thus we looked how we looked. Uninspired.

Yea, they need more talent and players that actually score in the postseason. Our captain is a great two way player but he produces offense like a third liner in the playoffs. Our big scorer did absolutely nothing. Same can be said about our conn smythe winner. If the few offensive players don't show up in the playoffs, there's no way this team can win.

They still won and turned the burners on when it mattered. Don't start making up excuses for it. Rangers went down 0-2 TWICE. Take note of how they played in Washington the 2 opening games. Look at the methods they used. especially in the OT games. Same with the Bruins. They started collapsing in front in the OT. Where's the goal support? PP support? This is on coaching. The Rah rah rah style wears out FAST because the players tune it out once it stops working. I'm not saying it's only Torts' fault, but it's his too. A big part is his.

More so Rask was inconsistent against the Leafs. The team has been focused the entire playoffs.

They still won? The argument is about consistency. You said the Bruins always play hard for 60 minutes. I proved you wrong with the Leafs series. Chara was insanely inconsistent.

It is blame, they blamed the coach.

In this situation, our "most qualified players in the room" haven't done dick in the playoffs and they ran off a coach months after having the most succesful season of their careers.

Ok, I refuse to go any further, if that's what you saw we are finished, and I'm going out to play hockey, gorgeous day out here in NYC :yo:

No you didn't. The team was still focused and played hard. The Maple Leafs are a prototypical Bruin-beater. that team is extremely fast and quick on the plays. They don't realy on physicality. That is a nightmare matchup. Rask was the most inconsistent player on the Bruins there. Boston also never trailed the series in games. I bet you the Leafs still had HELL to deal with playing the Bruins too. You proved nothing, but instead are making excuses. Rangers were outcoached, outplayed, out everything'd. Boston is a focused team that took advantage of the fact that the Rangers had too many flaws in the way they play.

Even with their best guys not doing well in round 1, they won anyway. What's that tell you?

The only thing anyone needs to know about the Boston Bruins' focus is that the only playoff series' they've lost under Claude Julien have been in 7 games. The team is consistent, the team is constantly in their series no matter how outmatched, they're constantly on the ball.

No use in arguing with Stan. His opinion is vastly different from yours or mine and he's sticking to it. It'll only agitate you trying to convince someone that their wrong. It's like politics and having a democrat argue with a republican, or vice versa, about which policies are right and which ones are wrong. You can argue yourself blue in the face, the other person still won't change their opinion.

They're a superior team yes, but their coaching staff keeps them on point and focused too, like you said. He can run the team and well.

And Bluenote, if I could start now for that job, I would be ripped and ready next week.

torts though that not pressuring the points in the defensive zone was a good strategy. that alone caused me to not like him.

I hope your name is Dylan McIlrath.

I'm no undertaker, more of an underachiever :propeller

Work those leg muscles :amazed:

I can keep up with the Callahan's, but not the Hagelin's. When I was 29 maybe I could, at 39 my legs are still solid but you lose that extra gear. I'm lucky though, most guys I played with have bad knees by now, while I can still skate for hours without major downtime needed to rest the pain afterward ;)

I don't work out a lot but I have lower body strength. My legs/calves are pretty big but not fatty. I usually play goalie though, so my knees might be a little bit more shot

Reality hurts, doesn't it?

Ryan Callahan has 24 points in 59 playoff games. Nash is our best offensive player and accomplished nothing with the puck on his stick all series.

The Bruins were also inconsistent down the stretch of the regular season. That's why so many Rangers fans were excited to play the Bruins. They didn't click until they played the Rangers.

The Pens won all 3 regular season games against Boston. Boston got hot at the right time.

They got it together and played to their potential. The Bruins are and nave been the best team in the NHL since they won. The Rangers had no game plan against them. Outcoached, outplayed, outmatched.

And yet my point still remains. The Bruins are one of the best teams in hockey but still manage to go through periods of inconsistent play. There is no team immune to it.

Reality !?

Yeah Nash pulled a Crosby....I mean a Malkin against the Bruins. Those guys stink, coaches who've been with them for 4 years hold no responsibility to the teams success whatsoever !
