Maybe Torts Wasn't the Problem

tell me if im wrong but the most un optomistic fans are ranger fans

I might agree with you, except for the fact that this franchise has won one Stanley Cup since 1940. And spent most of the years inbetween championships missing the playoffs. All things considered I'd say the fact that we became fans and stayed fans shows how optomistic we actually are.

Tortorella showed a clear inability to adapt to the team he was given this year. You can blame the shortened season if you like, but over 48 games virtually nothing changed in his strategy. The PP was an abomination, and it's ineffectiveness was an issue throughout his tenure here. At some point you have to stop blaming the pieces he had at his disposal and realize he just couldn't implement a proper strategy on the PP. Edmonton had he 3rd best PP in the NHL in 2011-12, and can anyone say they had a conventional PPQB at their disposal?

I wasn't thrilled with Torts being let go when it happened, but it's obvious that the players had enough so I'm ok with it. It wasn't all about his grumpy demeanor. I agree with you, and his failures to adjust weren't just limited to last season. It's one of the biggest negatives he carries as a coach.

I think the Rangers PP is instantly better by not having him there next year, which is something that would've made an enormous difference in the playoffs.

Special teams was pretty much the problem for the entirety of the season. The Rangers were actually 3rd in 5-5 F/A, behind Chicago and Boston. BOTH the PK and PP **** the bed in the playofs.

this coaches "trade" will be a win win for both Canucks and Rangers.

Happy to have Torts, AV runs a country club and is too busy trying to be everybody's friend. should be good for pumping Brad Richards Tires

The leadership in the room (Callahan, Henke, Girardi) won't stand for any shenanigans. I'm not worried about an "inmates running the asylum" situation.

Torts left an indelible mark on these guys (especially the younger players) on how to go about things "The Right Way".
