My ideal pick would (realistically) be Robertsson. He's in my personal top 10, is ranked by most major boards in the late 20s, and IMO has a somewhat long (but existing) shot at being the best player in the draft five years from now. There are some rumors, however, about Lysell potentially being a dropper (though how far is debatable; some boards have him in the top 10 while Pronman and others have him dropping into the late-teens and early twenties). If he somehow makes it to #26, I hope that Carolina doesn't overthink it and take him ASAP, because I think that he has an even better shot than Robertsson at being the potential best player in the draft.

Like I said earlier. Aatu Räty (Athletic's list nr. 19) or Samu Tuomaala (23) at the first round and Ville Koivunen (70) at the third round. And Kärpät to Hurricanes pipeline is fully loaded again. My personal opinion is that Ville Koivunen will be best of them all, but I am probably in the minority.

First mock I’ve seen so far that has gotten to the Canes pick:

I could live with Lysell.

Take it for what it's worth, but a friend of mine has heard rumours that Lysell has been linked with possible sexual harassments, and that's one of the reasons why he left Frölunda for Luleå. Also heard that he is a pain to work with, that he thinks very much of himself already.

Don't know if it's true, but that's what I've hard.

A lot of the Lysell controversy, at least IMO, is WAY overblown. He thinks that he deserves more ice time, like a lot of players as skilled as he is. I don't blame him one inch. I have him as my personal #3 player in the draft after Beniers and Eklund. Great talent, possible top-line winger. Doesn't deserve to be picked in the late 20s at all.

He is Gunler. C’mon 2nd round pick:sarcasm:

Olen Zellweger is another pick right up the Canes alley in the early rounds. Undersized D who succeeds all over the ice with top-end skating and lots of controlled zone exits and entries. Similarities to Honka and Keane. Bonus exposure points for playing with Ronan Seeley this year.

At the tippiest top ceiling he could become an Adam Fox type.

edit: his birthday is also 5 days from being pushed to the 2022 Draft

Listened to a Scouching report this weekend about Koivunen. The report reminded me of someone analyzing Josh Bailey's play. I would be ok with the Canes using the 26OA for Koivunen.

Honestly the last time I actually paid attention to late 1st rounders we could pick, I was sure Landon Ferraro would be a steal, then we drafted Philippe Paradis. And yeah, waste of time in every way...

For 2019, I just didn't even bother to research until maybe draft day, so I was just fine with Suzuki. I figure it'll be the same this year. Just such a crapshoot after the first top 10 or so picks.

As someone who used to really do all the homework I can say I agree and it’s pretty much that. Most years are a crap shoot after the top 10, obviously this year much more so. I doubt there’s a consensus top three amongst the actual team lists.

I have Lysell in the top 3 players of the draft, let alone the top 5 (IMO, Beniers/Eklund/Lysell are the cream of this year). He IMO might be the best player available, point blank period. To potentially get him at 26? Yes, please. Now it's both Button AND Pronman projecting us to take him there. Please let this happen!

If his production matched his play, he would be a top 3 player. If he falls to us and his production catches up then he’ll be a steal.

I did hear Pronman on a podcast saying that Lysell requested a trade and a lot of scouts didn't like that. Then he didn't produce much following the trade.
He requested a trade so he could move up to the SHL. He didn’t score a lot but by accounts looked like he belonged in his trip to the SHL.

If Lysell falls to #26 because of that then the Canes should thank their lucky stars. Gunler requested a trade too while part of the Canes, sometimes it makes sense. I don't see him making it out of the top-10 or top-15.
