Btw I'm still wondering why Chara isn't playing. Also curious about Tomas/Thomas Zaborsky of HIFK. Did these guys straight up decline to join or what? It's almost a home tournament after all so I just find it weird. Injuries?

Chara has got a pretty serious injury, Zaborsky is a little princess and has already ended his national team career.

Chára injured, Záborský resigned from national team many months ago due to constant conflicts with coach Vůjtek & staff. Vůjtek has had problematic relationships with quite a few other Slovak players, too (Šatan, Podhradský...). Time for Vůjtek to go.

Yeah, let's find more reasons to bash Vujtek :D Zaborsky has got a conflict with Vujtek, not vice versa. Vujtek had no conflict with Satan, Satan was in a bad shape prior to the Sochi games. Podhradsky was constantly declining invites, and he is now mediocre anyway.

You're obviously living in a parallel universe. Vůjtek has had conflicts with important players throughout his tenure. Šatan in "bad shape"? :D :D :D What was Radivojevič's shape, then, who had scored 3 goals in the entire season but played in Sochi instead of Šatan? Vůjtek's overall record and weird, unclear decision-making (if it's his decision-making at all) are indefensible. Also see another apparent conflict with Réway just prior to this year's Worlds. Unless Slovakia miraculously make it to the semifinals (not just quarterfinals) next week, Vůjtek has, overall, failed as Slovakia's coach. One flash-in-the-pan silver medal at the very start of his tenure doesn't change that. It's been going steadily downhill since then. Who else other than the head coach should assume responsibility for that? It should have happened right after Sochi.

= two players have Russian ancestors and they're Finnish born Finnish mother tongue speakers.

Not that it makes him any less Finnish, but I think Komarov grew up speaking Swedish and Russian as his "first languages" and learned Finnish at school. I mean he was brought up in Uusikaarlepyy and the population there is something like 90% Swedish-speaking.

Narva is basically a Russian city, even today.

Maybe you should think about labeling someone as living in parallel universe, when his views differ from yours, but that's none of my business. You are just making yourself look a bit stupid, I would say. Satan was after injury, had 2+0 in 10 games. Vujtek has hinted that the decisions about roster in Sochi weren't just in his hands. Why do you keep bashing him, then?

Oh, I hope you won't be that surprised, when it turns out that Reway didn't miss this WC because of illness, but something absolutely different.

Actually, I do agree that Vujtek should have left after Sochi. But the constant criticism that Vujtek is receiving right now, while almost no one says anything about the players, drives me crazy. But I get it, what could be better, why would we blame our players when we have Vujtek, and what's even better, he is Czech  No coach is going to teach our players how to play hockey. That's not the job of a coach.

Not that it makes him any less Finnish, but I think Komarov grew up speaking Swedish and Russian as his "first languages".
Komarov is an interesting case. His parents were Russian, he grew up in a part of the country where the dominant language was Swedish, but when asked about his mother tongue, his own answer is actually "Finnish". This is because it's the language he's used the most and is most comfortable with.

Barkov IDs differently. He was born to two fully ethnic Russian parents and the language they spoke at home was Russian. So Russian, not Finnish, is Barkov's mother tongue, at least in technical sense. Sasha himself has said when inquired about the issue, "at home I'm Russian, but when I step out the door, I'm a Finn".

Of course, despite whatever languages they speak, both identify as culturally Finnish, and that's all that matters.

And Narva is city in Estonia, EU.

So? Don't get your point. That doesn't make him Finnish born still.

Care to elaborate whats your point?

Nobody can choose where they are born but we don't have to hide those facts, its OK to be born outside of Finland and immigrate to our country if you contribute. I don't have a clue if Komarov thinks hes full Finn trough and trough, half Finn-half Russian, or Estonian or what ever. I see him as Finn but its his call and I don't care.

Its just a fact that hes not born in Finland, thats all I said.

What nonsense is this? You can't get a clearer admission of failure. If, as head coach, you can't decide about your roster, you should resign, instead of hanging on for 2 more years. (You also have Å atan's pre-Sochi stats wrong, of course, besides many other things.)

I guess my point was more or less that Komarov is only namely russian, even if he was born during era when Soviet union held Estonia as hostage/vassal. And that alone doesn't make him anything else than russian in papers ... I don't know what Komarov's parents think but I don't even see him as russian. Except for the passport which was given him automatically.

And to me as a finn, he is as full-fledged member of our family than anyone can ever be.

It's still possible to advance with 10 points, at least as of right now. Denmark needs to defeat Norway in regulation tonight, Finland needs to defeat Belarus in regulation, Norway needs to defeat Belarus in regulation, and Slovakia needs to defeat the US in regulation. Easy, right? :sarcasm:

Toughest part of my prognosis working out so far. :amazed: Denmark leads Norway 2-1 after 1st period. Go Denmark! :handclap:

He's an ethnic Russian who holds dual-citizenship. It's not rocket science.

It was 2+0 in 9 games, actually, so I don't know what did I get wrong. (You probably don't realize that the roster needs to be announced a bit earlier than one day before the games). You could argue that he could have gone instead of Radivojevic, and I think that he should have been there, but it was stated for countless times that the conflict with Chara played a major role, so can you please carefully explain, how is that Vujtek's mistake??

Do you have some memory issues? Vujtek wanted to resign, our players and federation wanted him to stay. If our federation messes with the decisions of the coach, is it his fault?

Yes. If you can't perform your job, don't perform it. Don't give me that **** about Šatan. One free place opened on the roster due to injury, Šatan was scoring like a machine in the KHL, but instead of Šatan, he nominated Radivojevič who was having possibly the worst season of his career. :shakehead (Eerily similar to this year's situation with Kopecký!) One of his many weird, incomprehensible decisions over the years.

Zaborsky quit NT career at 27? What the hell? What kind of person would do that. Is it about the coach or something against the hockey Federation lead or something?

Oh, so I guess we are gonna end up with having no coach. I am tired of arguing, I really don't know what regarding the Satan-Chara conflict is "****". I think Vujtek has made mistakes, but I still feel like not even Chuck Norris as a coach would help us.

Yes, those things. The problems were there pretty much throughout Vůjtek's tenure, and other players have had similar conflicts.

A coach should help and resolve conflicts between players, instead of kicking important players off the team. I saw no attempt at a mediation/reconciliation in the conflict.

I am not sure if a coach is supposed to be a mediator.

OMG, it worked. Denmark has just defeated Norway in regulation. :yo: The trouble is: Norway now has nothing to play for, so why should they bother to defeat Belarus in regulation? Well, one can only hope... :)
