May 6 2007 was the last time the Sabres won a playoff series... that was 2102 days ago...

Only 4 players from the team that missed the playoffs in 2008 remain (Miller, Vanek, Pommer, Hecht). The roster has been almost completely turned over in the last 5 years.

They made changes all the way at the top and all the way down to the players and assistant coaches.

The problem is behind the bench and we ALL know it now. Even if we disagree on how long it's been a problem, we know it's the problem now.

Lets get some signs up in the FN Arena.

That's the date when some idiot decided to extend the shelf life of the fools who run this franchise.

Again, I'm worried about the fact that this is probably Regier's decision to make. And he'll be hesitant to dismiss his amigo. The right time is now, when the season is young enough to see a fresh face inject some life into the team for the next few years.

Like I've said ad nauseum the last few weeks: we knew this was going to be a transition year. I just wanted to see an entertaining team that tried hard and looked like they were headed in the right direction. It's painfully obvious that with Ruff as the coach, the players have tuned him out and are going through the motions for the most part.

We're the only team in the league who refuses to change coaches when things go downhill. Seasons prior, I was fine with it, as there were still blatant flaws with the roster that IMO no coach would've been able to salvage. Here, I see a decently built team with a pipeline that could be harnessed in a good direction. Lindy Ruff is not the right coach to take us there. When your top guys have completely tuned him out - including your newest acquisition, Ott, who doesn't flinch when Ruff talks to him on the bench, doesn't concur with anything or nod acknowledge - it's time for a change.

THERE ARE FIFTEEN PEOPLE IN THIS HOUSE, AND YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE MAKING TROUBLE

Stafford, Sekera and Kaleta were also there on the 2007-08 team that missed the playoffs, but point still stands. Sekera and Kaleta played less than half the season with the big club, but significant chunks. Weber had a cup of tea that year.

Seriously just chant Fire Ruff every ****ing game until the guy is fired. I would love to see how long management will wait if the crowd is ****ing cheering it every single game.

Not for nothing...it has been made pretty clear to the fans that Pegula/Black actually care what we think. In a sick, twisted way, I truly think that the more adamant about removing Ruff we appear to be, the more likely it is to happen within a reasonable timeframe.

We got Kevin Sylvester ousted to a degree. Can't we follow suit with Ruphidge?

I don't disagree with replacing Ruff. But what a completely disingenuous way to frame this.

The level of talent on the teams coming out of the lockout was far more than any team we've iced since. We lost our two best players and co-captains July 1st that same year and never went out to get replacements (ownership again). That was after losing key depth guys the summer before. That had a much bigger impact on the next few seasons and our lack of playoff success. You can't lose that much talent/depth, not replace it and then expect to have continued success.

The previous ownership group was penny-wise/pound foolish and absolutely gutted the teams we had coming out of the lockout with their contract policies. Their parting shot was letting the d-partner to our Rookie of the year dman leave in free agency over one year on his contract. Its completely ridiculous to assert that Ruff is THE reason we haven't won a playoff series since that date.

I'm all for this. But in a recent post, someone on here said he tried to get this chant going in his section at the last home game (I think).

He said he could only get a few fans on board, and then they were booed by the majority of fans around him.

How many of the Kool Aid drinkers at FNC actually want Ruff fired?

It may not be as many as you think.

I went to bed so I'm not going to see your response for awhile Jame

I will simply say that I agree that Ruff's time here should come to an end. I'm not going to waste energy arguing over the past. Even though I poked you in the eye with my previous post.

I'm more inclined to lean towards what you're getting at. I separate the two issues: the lack of playoff success, and where the team is at now.

Not to be repetitive, but where we are now, and the lack of motivation/effort we've seen, is the reason Ruff has to go. We're in a position going forward where we have a chance to turn the corner and go in a different direction approach-wise...Ruff isn't getting the job done now.

The effort should be greater than the opponent's effort every single night when you're a team that's transitioning, as we are. When you don't have motivation to play the game the right way, yet you have a great first line and a group of forwards who can entertain in a sense, something's off.

Ruff has to go because this team is underperforming in the effort department. Ruff has to go because of the mishandling of the group this year and last.

Wrong.

The other mainstay you fail to mention is Regier. May 6, 2007 was the last time the Sabres won a playoff series. July 1, 2007 was when Briere and Drury were ran out of town. No matter how desperately fans want to move on from it, those dates are not coincidence. The team has not been competitive since.

Regier got lucky with the rule changes and the development of some young players coming out of the lockout. He's mismanaged the team ever since. Regier is to blame. Not Ruff.
