In this format there are so many games in the preliminary round that losing a point or two against Belarus doesn't really mean much. Belarus will likely lose points against Norway or Denmark, etc.

For all I know, we can loose points in games vs Norway and Slovenia and get full points vs at least one of Finland, Russia or the USA.

Yes, but we already lost a point to Denmark.

Yeah, we can usually play well at least against one top team, but all the top teams in our group are full of fast skaters. Our forwards seem incapable of scoring and we have a bunch of immobile big D-men who will struggle against those fast skaters.
