I assume the canadians, both players and fans want to play team russia now that they have Ovechkin, Malkin, Kovalchuk etc?
They're not invincible, we've beaten them before. Beside, to be Champions, you're supposed to be able to beat anyone. Canadians are up to the game, we're not Swedes .

Good effort by the Czechs, some bad luck with the placement of a skate and some pucks not settling for them. It was also a good game for Canada. A bit of pressure is good for them. It could have been 2 - 1 just as easily as it could have been 6 - 0. Burns has been Canada's best player in the tournament, and O'Reilly/Couturier have been key forwards. I was glad that they were added and I've been quite impressed with them.

That would be an incredible final because of the talent on display, but I get the feeling the USA will get the better of them again, today. They just seem to have Russia's number.

Canada is a massive favorite in that match-up. That Russia defense is piss poor and the team hasn't been overly impressive in this tournament.

Outside of Voracek they just didn't have anyone dynamic enough to create any offense. Assuming Russia wins today it will be interesting to see how Canada does against a team that has player who can challenge their D one on one.

can't speak for anyone else, but that is the matchup i would personally like to see. i like my rivalries old school.

What does it even mean?

He was trying to say that even Claude Giroux was back checking and paying attention defensively. Highlighted Giroux on a great defensive play and strip of a Czech- then backhands him in the same breath.

How dumb is that?

But I saw it as a veiled shot from a Pens flunky, too.

Nice to see other fans are starting to understand why Flyers fans love Couturier so much, despite the fact that he's not lighting up the scoreboards yet.

Refs gives Canada the game, no matter the result its a dirty win....

I know that this is mostly sour grapes, but we hardly need "help" to win hockey games.

If anything, Canada is constantly penalized in tournaments like these, especially ones with European refs, for playing a physical game. Notice that we've hardly thrown a body check out there - we've adapted after years of being prosecuted for playing a North American style game.

The Spezza "slash"? The Hall follow through high stick? Both marginal calls. But if you argue "well follow throughs are a penalty in IIHF", then the foot in the crease is a no goal too. Czechs were also running interference like crazy in the last 15 minutes.

I wanted a competitive game. I actually wanted the Czechs to score one. But we didn't need "help" to win.

I've liked Couturier since seeing him several times in the QMJHL. He's an elite defensive centre already and I know (from his junior days) that he has more to give offensively.

I mean, Team USA doesn't really have any starpower this year so the north american rivalry feels kind of "meh", atleast the russians got most of their offensive weapons... Missing guys like Datsyuk, Radulov and a few others.

LOL! The Czechs were throwing more picks than some NBA teams do

It looked like Canada went lockdown mode from the start of the 3rd. Pretty bad habit especially when the game wasn't even a blowout. Can't be doing that in the gold medal game.

It's kind of funny though, Canada have been sending over 18-20 year olds and some random players for years, now they be like "what the heck, let's send a good team for once and take this tournament seriously" - and BANG, they cruise to the gold medal :yo:

Cruise to the gold medal game, but still have to face a talented Russian team or beat the team that managed to beat them.

Nice to see Canada lock up a medal at this event though.

At the same time Swedish players seem to pick up the old canadian attitude of "nah..." I hope they get the memo.

Hall, Couturier, Ekblad, MaKinnon, Toffoli, Seguin, Barrie, Eakin...still quite young mind.

Don't kid yourself, no one will be able to beat canada, it's as much of a lock as the olympic final in 2014 when sweden lost Zetterberg and Bäckström, there just isn't any chance.

Yes, but last year.. .Reimer Joel Ward, Chimera, Hodgson, Read, Huberdeau... very mediocre players if you ask me
