Nice to hear the Anthem...

But lets watch the match up later today with Finland vs Czech's ...

The next opponent will be ready for us...

Go Canada Go :handclap::yo:

probably the last blowout of the tournament for canada. the semis against either finland/czech should be tough.

felt like belarus was playing scared... which you can't fault them for. anyhow. congrats to belarus for a well played tourney :)

HUZZAH! finally broke the wretched "qf curse"

Dressing up 12 forwards and 8 defensemen doesn't imply defensive style at all. Finland has used that formation, for example in 2011 when we won gold. This year's team uses 13 forwards and 7 defensemen.

On topic, impressive attendance: 15 126.

What Finland does and what Canada does are completely different things. Canada rarely if ever dresses 8 d-men. I actually can't think of the the last time Canada has dressed 8 d-men in this tournament. Canada usually goes with the extra forward. Canada is deep enough on D where that 7th d-men is usually enough depth. Having 8 available d-men for a game for Canada is pretty damn pointless. For example I'd take Brayden Schenn/Ennis in a game over another guy like Savard on D and that's how Team Canada usually sees it as well.

Out of the QF, that's a relief.

to be fair it was never in doubt to anybody at all after we found out we drew Belarus. I know they had a decent couple of tourneys lately but I would have been far more wary of Slovakia.

depends if we play the Czechs. The Czechs will opt to play the night game.

isn't it strange that after playing a very tough night time semi that the final is the next day. Why bother having a rest day after the quarters to semis.
If this was American broadcasters, the final would be Monday night prime time with 8 hours of hype and the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.

Man, they just crushed it. They really seem like they're in to win it this year. The QF curse for Canada is over and for some reason, this group of guys seems like they really want it. Good stuff.

He called NYR-WSH game 7 last night. Pretty impressive he was able to fly to Prague and call this game less than 11 hours later (it's a 9 hour flight!).

In case this comment isn't a joke, he's not actually in Prague. He's calling the game while watching on a special monitor that gives him the camera angles he needs to do his job.

As a Flyers fan, I don't like seeing Brayden Schenn as a healthy scratch and Sean Couturier as the 13th forward. Have they not looked very good in the tournament?

I think you are right - a lot of teams are defeated mentally against Canada before they ever leave the locker room. You can't mount a credible effort with the thought in your mind "how bad is it going to be today?" Also, for Belarus, Lalonde, the goalie, is normally much better than he was today, where literally everything directed at him was going in the net.

Have you seen the depth chart for forwards?

To be honest, every guy is under 16 and above 10 minutes time on ice. The lines don't mean much.

Looks like RUSSIA-USA is lined up for the evening game so we have an 11am game vs Finland/Czech though.

I guess I would have liked to see them beat out Ennis, Eakin, or Toffoli for spots. Canada's forward lineup is incredibly deep, though.

Couturier has not been used as the 13th forward though.

Today he played more than McKinnon, Duchene, Seguin, Toffolii, and others.

2 games ago he replaced Sid in the top line when Sid sat out.

3 games ago he played more than MacKinnon, Seguin, Duchene, and others.

And he has played well with 6 points in 8 games and +11.....2nd best in the entire tournament.

He will now need to shut down Voracek and Jagr.

This is a great experience for him.

Thanks for the info. I had only seen a few highlights from the tournament so I was simply going by the lines in the OP. Glad to hear Couts is playing well.
