Agreed. The difference between 13/7 vs. 12/8 is really philosophical. Some (mainly European) coaches prefer to send out 5-man units, which implies that 12/8 is better. In North America we're accustomed to having 4 fwd lines and 3 defensive pairings, which implies that 13/7 is better, because it enables us to maintain that structure in case of an injury to either a Fwd or a Def. It's got nothing to do with the offensive vs. defensive strategy.
